Base Layers for late season AZ Elk

What base layers and how many changes for a late rifle AZ Elk hunt?

I wear the same lightweight Merino for my base layer for every hunt from 90 degrees to 0.

Really dependent upon weather, tempers, your activity level, and whether or not your run hot or cold.

If it’s bitch cold and you’re stationary, run down.

If it’s cold and you’re stationary, then grab merino or synthetic (your choice) in the appropriate weight for you.

I haven’t had any experience with merino in cold weather. I do have a lot of cold weather hunting here in Michigan and Ohio but most of it is being able to come in at night and put fresh stuff on the next morning.
