Bartlein 2B on 30 cal mag

Personally I'd leave it for now, and test without the muzzle device.
I had a .338 done with an integral brake when I was young. I let the sales pitch of precise edm machining convince me to try it. It was the worst shooting gun I'd ever seen. Worse than a 180 series mini14!
Long story short, I tried back boring it first, wound up cutting it off. Rifle immediately started shooting very well.

Yep. That's my plan. I'll check it without a muzzle brake. However it shoots, is however it is going to shoot. At that point, I am just going to focus on cold bore bullseyes at 100 yards. Now, I am kicking around having a custom gun built, but in a completely different caliber. The H&H will be used for hunting and this new rifle will be used for shooting steel and rocks at long range.

Have you tried shooting a steel plate that would be approximately thr size of the kill zone off your quarry, at the maximum distance you intend to hunt?

Trust me I'm all about the confidence in a tight zero spent a ton of money on a custom rifle to insure i have a great machine.

But idk if a super tight group at 100 make significant difference in kill ability at 500
THIS ^^^^

Sounds like a classic case of it ain’t broke so do t try to fix it! But if you must, I love the 2b. I think it’s a great choice for a lightish but still accurate contour. Great on a mountain rifle. I have a 22” 2b on my custom .300wsm and it’s lights out!

Consistent cold bore accuracy is what it's all about. Sure, tiny groups are great, but who shoots groups at game? Unless you're shooting competitively, all that crap is just brag and penis envy.

Your rifle seems as though it shoots just fine for a hunting setup, if its putting that first shot where you aim it.

Now, the custom build..... that I can get behind.....

Best of luck with your decision.

I decided to pull the trigger on a new Bartlein 2B barrel yesterday from Southern Precision Rifles (bugholes.com). Once hunting season is over, I'm shipping the rifle and new barrel off to Straight Jacket Armory to have them do the rebarrel. They said they would have no problem rebarreling an XBolt.
