I figured I'd post the process of my Barrett Fieldcraft just in case anybody else is interested in doing the same. Or if anybody wants to post their Fieldcrafts, please do so!

Please no flaming. This has been purely done for fun.

I started with a 21" 6.5CM at 5lbs 3.6oz bare.

The barreled action and bolt weighs 3lbs 4.7oz.

First step was to get TBAC to cut the barrel down to 16" and thread 9/16x24 and install their face-mounted CB muzzle brake. It came back weighing 2.6oz less with the muzzle brake.

I installed Talley rings, an SWFA UL BDC scope, and a TBAC Ultra 7 Gen 2. I also removed the sling studs (I don't run a sling). The full rifle now weighs 6lbs 4.2oz. I'm waiting on a Gen 2 Ultra 5, which should save another 2oz.

Here's what she looks like now.

Next up, I'm taking it on a bear hunt in May, then it'll be sent off to cerakote and, if required, have the LOP shortened. Plus I'll get some flush sling mounts and maybe Spartan adapters installed.

I'll post dope on it soon.

Nice I’ve got same can and want a 16” or 18” 308. Had a factory one and sold like an idiot.

Wish TB would do a face mount flash hider, I hate brakes.

Running the ultra 7 on a FC 280ai w/ 1/2x28 and an adapter no problems but they don’t recommend.

I've asked them for a face-mounted flash hider with no luck. I've also asked for a brake with washer flats on it like the flash hider, but they aren't planning on doing that either. Oh well.

I've got the face-mounted brakes on 4 different rifles now and it works great. This one, 2 6.5CM Tikkas, and a Model 70 7RM. Would highly recommend. I'm a professional structural engineer, so I couldn't in good conscience put that kind of pressure on 1/2" threads.

I'd cut down your barrel to whatever TBAC's minimum is. I'll never carry extra inches again.

Nice build! I have the 18" 308 flavor with rugged radiant can, spartan bipod, vx-6hd 44mm. IIRC it's 7.9 lbs with 3rds of 180 gr in the mag, can, and sling.
Did you have to re bed the rifle once you removed the action to the stock? I would like to install the gunsmith spartan adapter but it shoots so well not sure I wanna mess with it. I know these rifles are bedded to the end of the stock.

Beautiful rifle! You should not have to rebed it if you are just removing and reinstalling. Some people have even been able to cerakote it without rebedding. I'll let you know how my rifle shoots.

Weaver Rifles did the paint job and installed the tee nut in the stock for the arca rail. I was originally using a short arca but switched over to the SRS Hunter long rail. It’s attached via the front action screw, the tee nut, and the front swivel stud insert. The rail was not made for blind mag stocks so it looks a little quirky, but it gives the function I wanted.

Not sure what kind of paint Kevin used, but it’s super nice and is holding up great.

Blue mountain precision threaded the barrel.

Great builds here.

Rookie question, I have two FC in the same caliber and want to switch barrels between them as one has a worn stock and the other a beat up barrel. I'd like to customize one. Would they need to be rebedded if I swapped the barrels? I have no idea what the tolerances are on these things.

Is just the outside of the barrel beat up? I'd just get it cerakoted after you cut and thread it. Or you can just swap the whole barreled action to the other stock.

this as long as both are the same barrel length. Some dimensional differences between the 21” and 18”

Just did some shooting for the first time today... All 3 shot groups, didn't want barrel to heat up and the suppressor to cause mirage. This should give a good indication of the muzzle Velocity drop when cutting it short. Note that I am running the Ultra 7 can though, so that might affect things.

First group, Federal Premium 135gr Berger Hybrid Hunter. Factory Velocity 2775fps. Measured Velocity 2623fps. (Excuse off of target, this was my bore-sighted group).

2nd-4th groups all @Unknown Munitions 127gr Barnes LRX w/ Lapua brass in their "factory" loading. Factory 2860fps (not sure if this is right). Average muzzle Velocity across 9 shots is 2510fps.

Overall, I'm very pleased. With a muzzle Velocity of 2510fps with the Barnes LRX, that takes me to 400yards still above 1800fps, which is as far as I'd possibly shoot with this scope.

Once I get through the 100rounds I got loaded for this rifle, I may try to get them to heat it up a bit, but this has been excellent so far.
