Barrel Heating at Range - Solution

All,
This is a PSA. I have been doing a ton of load development and, as you all know, it’s a PITA especially when it’s hot out. Multiple guns, cool down, wait time, etc…

I ordered this little battery blower from Amazon (I am sure any brand would work) and put the rubber hose on it. The little contraption has significantly cut down on my wait time for barrel heat. It’s not really a solution, but it does help in a noticeable way. The charger was put in the pic for scale.

It might be a terrible idea, but sometimes I run cold water over the barrel if I’m in a hurry.

Neat! For what it costs, it's certainly worth a try. I also hate cooling down barrels. I'm there to shoot not sit on my ass and wait.

I've done the damp towels over the barrel, running rubbing alcohol down the bore, and using an external fan. All work well but are kind of inconvenient/messy. Your idea seems like it's the best. Cool from inside out!

I have this same one, cut a piece of bad brass (case base) and squeeze the tube on it and it will stay in the chamber way better. Only downside it it only last 10 min or so. I throw it in after each 5 for 2 min.

What size tubing works best for that pump? 1/2" ID?

I just had some clear tubing like 3/8” id. The nozzle is slopped so it would probably fit 1/4”-1/2”.

Putting the gun in a vertical, barrel up position also helps. Creates a chimney effect for heat.

For summer shooting, I bring a small cooler with water and some towels. Cools a barrel pretty quickly.

Can you load up a giant yeti with ice, lay down some plastic over the ice and the rifle on the plastic?
