Barnes 270 129 lrx

What's your load data for this? I've got some 129's and H4831sc that I am interested in working up.

I started at 58gr and worked up to 62gr. Settled at 60.5 gr. COAL of 3.32. Norma brass. Fed 215M

Large bull harvested from 200 yards with .270 win using Hornady superformance with 130 gr GMX. Hornady advertises 3190 fps. With one shot, the bull took one step and was down. Double pumper hit with nickel sized exit hole. It is not a shoulder smashing round, but with a good hit in the vitals at moderate ranges will get the job done.

270 will definitely work but so will a 30-30.

I say shoot as much gun as you can accurately.

I like the 300 wsm.

I know that I am late to the party on this thread, but can anyone who hand loads the LRX for a 270 tell me what COAL they found to produce the best accuracy? Working up a load in the next few weeks...

COAL from my rifle won't help you much. It's more of a load development thing since the freebore will be different in our rifles. It's also better to measure off the ogive for consistence.

Old thread but wanted to add some information. Shot a whitetail buck at 50 yards with the 129 LRX. Bullet exited through offside shoulder and smashed right through the knuckle. Photo is the exit through the rib cage prior to wrecking the offside shoulder.

No surprises at 50 yards but thought I’d add for reference. Seems like that 2” hole through an elk would be fine…

Has any one used the 129 gr LRX on Elk and if so what range and how did they preform.

Been shooting it in my 270 ,but I don't shoot my 270 when elk hunting. I wouldn't be scared to use it, but I love my 300 win. What I've found using copper bullets is faster they fly the better they kill. A 270 is a fast caliber and barnes are good bullets , so they should work just fine. Where i don't like them are in the 6.5 cm. They don't seem to pass through even when shot a close distance.
