I started at 58gr and worked up to 62gr. Settled at 60.5 gr. COAL of 3.32. Norma brass. Fed 215MWhat's your load data for this? I've got some 129's and H4831sc that I am interested in working up.

I know that I am late to the party on this thread, but can anyone who hand loads the LRX for a 270 tell me what COAL they found to produce the best accuracy? Working up a load in the next few weeks...
Been shooting it in my 270 ,but I don't shoot my 270 when elk hunting. I wouldn't be scared to use it, but I love my 300 win. What I've found using copper bullets is faster they fly the better they kill. A 270 is a fast caliber and barnes are good bullets , so they should work just fine. Where i don't like them are in the 6.5 cm. They don't seem to pass through even when shot a close distance.Has any one used the 129 gr LRX on Elk and if so what range and how did they preform.
Im shooting a 270 win with a mv of 3250 fps Thanks
Ummmm......but you were hunting moose with a bow? Something about a pot amd a kettle here.I have NEVER been a fan of 270 for Elk....
Just got back from a Archery Moose hunt.
2 guys in our camp were hunting rifle Elk.
270s with Superformance GMX ammo.
Both killed Elk.
Both bullets failed to penetrate enough to get a exit hole.
Both Elk died within 200 yards, probably within 60 seconds.
Very little to zero blood trail and to be fair they should have looked harder but they thought they missed.
1 shot was center lungs, the other was rear lungs(liver area).
IMHO, The 270 is NOT the best choice for Elk.
It was an excellent learning experience for everyone involved.
For thick woods a better choice would be a 7mm Rem Mag or 300 win mag loaded with a Barnes TTSX to get an exit hole.
Half the time I'm having to try and rationalize and reason with folks on here that think .22s are elk rifles, then there are people that don't think a .270 is enough.I'd argue about the efficiency of a 270 on elk but I'm too busy eating elk steak and burger from my last one, while remembering the hunts of the other 20 or so my 270 has brought down efficiently.
Out of a 20" barrel, my 270 with that ammo chronographs at 3154, 5 shot average.Large bull harvested from 200 yards with .270 win using Hornady superformance with 130 gr GMX. Hornady advertises 3190 fps. With one shot, the bull took one step and was down. Double pumper hit with nickel sized exit hole. It is not a shoulder smashing round, but with a good hit in the vitals at moderate ranges will get the job done.
