Banning Hunting Tech in Idaho

Couldn’t you say your suppressors make game not naturally afraid and could make hunting easier?

See. The list just goes on and on.

Us hunters have to stop eating our own. Every time we try to white night an issue the antis run with it. Their goal is the removal of all guns and hunting. The incremental steps we give them help them in their cause.

No, I don’t think I could say that. My animals aren’t afraid of gunshots - suppressed or unsuppressed. The ones that hear them are dead. I am partly joking, but partly serious. Most of the deer on the farm don’t react to gunfire unless they see the source.

Who said anything about eating our own? Who is white knighting? We just don’t agree on which things should be limited.

You’ve never taken a second shot on an animal or missed your mark?

White knighting wasn’t toward you. It’s hunters in general. They do 99.7% of tech that give us advantage over deer, but 99.8% is a bridge too far and they shout it from the rooftops they want to give the poor deer a chance.

The aggravating part of all of this and the HAT/Mule deer group is all the opinions and ideas behind regulating technology for the benefit of our ungulates. Taking away thermals/cell cameras does nothing for them. Taking away the idea of “long range” hunting does nothing. A guy with a thermal still kills one deer with or without the thermal. Guy with cell camera still kills a deer, not 50. So what are we talking about? Do we hate that with cameras and thermals a guy can be more strategic with what they’re wanting to kill by looking over more animals and that bothers us…then say that. Don’t say these tools are killing more animals by us having them because that’s not true. You know what effects deer..habitat, winter, predators. Take your pick. No one wants to have the hard convo that reduced tags statewide would have a bigger beneficial impact on deer. That impacts way too many pocket books. This is a great example of what kicking the can down the road looks like

Agreed. Habitat is the number one concern, imo.

I edited my post to make it clear I was partly joking.
I hear you brother. This topic always gets me. Drive your f250 across country pulling a 40k can am. 5k rifle. 2k scope. 3k binos. Been scouting with onx for months. Garmin inreach to stay safe. Satellite texting buddies where the deer are. But damn it drones are ruining hunting!

Talking of the proverbial “you”.

That’s true. But I think most guys would not use them if that was the law. Of course some would, as with anything. In a group setting, I would think the peer pressure would lean hard in the direction of not breaking the law.

Regardless, It seems logical to legislate for the moral/ethical rule, then figure out the enforcement after. We don’t say “fraud/embezzlement is difficult to prove/prosecute, let’s not bother trying to make it a crime”.

Agree 100%. I hate the “it’s difficult to enforce so it’s not worth having a law” argument. I tend to believe that the majority of people are honest law abiding citizens. Maybe I’m being naive.

I don’t understand that logic. If we don’t regulate everything why regulate anything at all? So let’s just legalize everything and say screw it? Isn’t starting somewhere better than nothing?

It's a slippery slope towards regulating ourselves into sling shots with a 10 minute season with a point system. I want less regulations, not more.

So no archery seasons? No muzzleloader seasons? Why have any season dates or tags at all? What about units? Wilderness areas? We gonna drive 4x4s anywhere on the mountain we can get them? Drones? How about thermals on drones? Just free for all?

There has to be some restrictions. Therefore it’s absolutely a reasonable to discuss what/when and where to have them.

We already have more restrictions on the books than I would like, there's just limited enforcement and even less consequences. Now guys want more restrictions. I can't get on board with that. More laws aren't going to stop jack when we don’t even enforce the laws we have.
