Dad has a Banish 30 (not V2). SS says ~34 dB reduction in a .308 in 9". I am curious from the folks who have one of these, what is the 7" config give us? I will be using it on a 65 CM, so expectations is 165 dB "base", -34, would give me roughly a 131dB residual ... and "hearing safe". I am wondering if going to a 7" config, if it would still be in that range?

Any real world info is appreciated.

I have one that I have shot on all my rifles including when I owned a 6.5 creed and 308. I don't have a db meter. I shot all my guns without ear pro and never had ringing. Not saying it's probably hearing safe. But didn't bother me.

Did you run it in 7" or 9" configuration.

FWIW, from someone deaf as a post, 131 dB is NOT hearing safe.

Was just referencing the 140dB that get's referenced quite a bit as that (I think that level is the "only takes 1", where as below that, it may take more than 1 occurrance. I kind of laugh at the 70dB, as my wife would say that "normal conversation" from me is much greater than that (yup, tinnitus and a good bit of hearing loss already, but from time on the sub)

I do agree that 70 dB is sort of a low threshold, but the principle remains the same.

As a shooting instructor and range officer for more than 30 years, my hearing loss is considered "profound", in spite of wearing earplugs and/or muffs with at least 30 dB sound reduction. I am reminded by my doctor (also a shooter) that even 40 dB reduction still leaves centerfire rifle reports well above damaging levels.

The intent of my post is to help others avoid having to say "What?" 50x daily...

To your question in your original post, I'm not familiar with the Banish line, but there are several Banish suppressors listed here:

140 dBA is the OSHA hearing safe standard for a single impulse in something like 15 minute intervals. It still requires limited exposure. Sustained exposure requires additional hearing protection (plugs and headphones).

No offense here, appreciate the input. Totally on the "wish I knew this earlier and took better care" bus

I have a Banish 30 that I used in the 7" configuration for one shot hunting last fall. It was great. Nice and quiet from an 18" 6mm CM. I always use ear pro when shooting it otherwise.
