Badass Tikka Builds

Semi custom tikka owner here - I notice a lot of guys are going to the UM tikka rings that mount direct to the dovetail. I like that idea! I think I’m going to try it out for myself…

My question - are you guys running out of elevation adjustment without a 20 MOA base? I realize this question has a lot of variables… just wanted to see what you guys are experiencing with your setups.

For reference - I’m shooting a 7MMRM / 162 grain bullet / 2,900 FPS. Also planning to try out a NF NX8. Mainly because they show more elevation adjustment vs the 30mm scope competition. I appreciate any input on

Tikka dovetail rings were a thing before UM. Dovetail mounted rings rock, IMO. All my Tikkas have them. Sportsmatch makes some great ones as well as UM.

Elevation adjustment? Do you regularly shoot out to 1000 yards? That’s roughly 10-12 mils holdover with your setup which is pretty doable with most 30mm scopes.

If I had a favorite rifle, this .270 Tikka build would be it. It’s within an oz of 8# with 5 rounds in the mag(not including the bipod).
1) AG Privateer stock
2) Swarovski Z3 3-10 in the UM micro height rail mounted rings
3) UM rail level and recoil lug
4) mountain tactical bottom metal and SS action screws
5) pic/arca rail installed
6) lighter trigger spring installed

I picked this gun up used and on sale though it looked unfired.

Sub moa accurate with most factory ammo and very accurate with Federal Fusion specifically. I hope to nitride the barrel and action when I really have it dialed in.

Easily fixed, I bed the scope into the rings with whatever inclination I want.
This one has about 45 MOA which gets me over a mile with this comboIMG_4926.jpeg

Thanks for your response. I do not "regularly" shoot 1,000 yards. But I would like to shoot steel out to 800+ and want to make sure my scope of choice will get there without a 20moa base. That's where I like the NX8 due to the internal adjustment. Another scope I'm looking into pretty hard is a Tenmile HX 5-25x50 that scope is showing a little less internal adjustment. Great looking setup - fun to put a rifle like that together.

I like that stock, is this something new they offer?

They offer a range of stock designs and will inlet for anything on a custom stock. Several big pluses for me over the mass-market offerings:
  • They are handed (not ambidextrous) and include a cheek swell on the correct side. If I shoulder a modern (thin) ambidextrous stock with my eyes closed, I will open my eyes and see a somewhat reliable 10° left cant in the optic. This design puts me within a couple degrees of level every time.
  • They are cut and finished to your specified LOP.
  • They are fully pillar bedded to your action and look the part.
  • They will install fittings, cups, and adapters to your specs.
I had some samples shipped so I could check the feel before ordering. I loved the steeper negative comb on their High-Comb Sporter (mold based on the original German Weatherbys) , but (for me) the LRH was a better overall fit. Other than having a bit much drop at heel (still less than most) it's close to perfect. 4.3 oz lighter than the factory stock, and far stiffer.

I went to their page last night and scoped out their offerings.

I’ve looked at them before but did not dig any deeper than the surface, wasn’t until yesterday when I read the page I realized going through the line of pics is what they have to offer.

These intrigue me especially being made in Oregon.

They sent you stocks to check out?

Edit: you can pm me if we don’t want to clutter the thread
