She rifled him. Tried a few times with the bow, but this time out the pipe came along too.

The smile lasted as long as the picture, then it was a loo of agony for the rest of the way.

I have to say, women can be a lot tougher than a guy would ever expect.

Indeed. Hunting has given me more opportunities to test my mental and physical toughness than any other activity I have ever tried.

Congrats again to your wife for a job well done...bow or rifle, that is one heck of a trophy. I am sure the mount will be a great reminder for both of you of your amazing adventure for years to come. Have you tried any of the meat yet? Goat is my favorite ground meat of all time :)

Right on...obviously she's proficient with both the bow and rifle....thanks for sharing a little bit of what looked like an awesome hunt.

I passed the congrats to the wife, she's been overwhelmed by a huge flood of support and positive response from everybody. For community full of hunters, very few women hunt, and even fewer get an opportunity to experience a hunt like this. I think she has inspired a few other ladies to give it a try.

As for the meat, had backstrap steaks for lunch today. He was surprisingly tender, and tastes a lot like sheep. Fried with a little olive oil, an onion a few mushrooms. Turned out fantastic. He's cut up for steaks, roasts (which will either be in the slowcooker or cut for jerky) and hamburger.

That really is a tremendous accomplishment!

Can you post pics of the mount and rug when you are done? I am going to draw a goat tag some day and need to see some different options.

Congrats to your wife on a nice looking goat.
Did you see any sheep on your hunt or heard of
any taken down there.

Will post mounted pics once it's done. As for sheep, it's good sheep country, but didn't see any. Hot weather is keeping them in the trees.

Who are you taking the goat to for mounting.
Do you have a larger picture of the ram in your avatar looks like a beauty as well.

I get my taxidermy work done by Kevin Wiebe, who owns Top notch Taxidermy in Coaldale, Alberta. He's done a couple rams for me. His wife figures he's done probably 250+ sheep. I know he'll do a great job on the goat shoulder mount, and the rest of the hide will be rugged. My wife is actually considering a wall pedestal. He's very dedicated to giving you back a mount that is exactly the animal that you shot. Plus, both my rams had a turn around time of about 5 months.

Here's a pic of that ram. Where are you from?

Thanks guys.

The wife is wondering if any of you guys (or gals) can post a couple pics of your goat mounts and rugs. She's taking him in to the taxidermist on Friday and looking for ideas before she goes in.

We had Luke's '09 billy rugged whole with the head and all, and love how it turned out!

I had a shoulder mount done of the nanny I got last year, and it should be back from the taxidermist soon. We are headed back out for goats in a week or so, and I am thinking this time of doing a euro mount with the skull and then just tanning the hides to use as throws on the back of our living room couches. October goats have a lot of hair on them, and would be great to take the chill off the leather furniture :)

To me a lot of the trophy is the body and hair. I was planing on doing a half body mount. I love the panatloons on the front legs and knew I wanted those included. After shooting a huge bodied goat a week ago. I decided on a full mount would be the only way to do him justice.

I really like forms that show motion and have been searching the different taxidermy catalogs for ideas.

Here is a great mount that showcases the pantaloons! This is what our friend Steve had done with the goat (we named Dale in the Shale ) that almost killed us both on Kodiak in '10. A mount like this is a great option if you don't quite have the space for a full body mount, but want to include the pantaloons. I have assured Steve that if he ever decides he doesn't want Dale anymore, that we will find a place for him at our house.

I really like the full rug too, but she's pretty set on the shoulder mount, whether it's a wall pedestal or standard mount. Definitely gonna rug the back half to throw over the leather couches. Will have to see if I can fill my tag now. Maybe that full rug will happen yet.
