Anyone run the spider x? I'm looking to keep my OM1mk2 with the 12-100 handy. If not the spider.... what?

No experience with the Spider system, but I have the same camera and use the Peak Design Capture Clip.

I put it on my packs' shoulder straps and generally like it. Has always stayed secure, even when skiing, and the shoulder strap placement generally keeps it out of the way when bushwhacking.

Main complaints are that it does strain my shoulder a bit over a full day, particularly if I have my biggest 100-400 lens on the body. And I wish their Standard Plate had anti-rotation pins in addition to the 1/4-20 screw; as is, it has a tendency to rotate on a tripod, particularly when shooting vertical and/or with my biggest lens.

I was a bit leary of the fixed plate. I'd want to rotate my lens to get balanced....or at least I think so. I'd be running a 40-150 occasionally and possibly the 100-400 but that's a lot hanging on the body for my comfort.

Yeah it's got its limits, especially with bigger setups, but I've generally been a fan. When I start feeling my shoulder getting sore, I usually just carry the cam in my hand for a bit. I might try mounting it to my hip belt this year, but suspect it would move around too much with a big lens.

The best camera storage system I've used in terms of accessibility and protection is the ThinkTank Rotation series, but that's a whole backpack system, and the packs aren't particularly stable or supportive. They suck to ski with and I'd never pack meat with them, but they are awesome for camera use.

I might also try just stashing my cam in a hipbelt-mounted water bottle tube pocket. I already cut out the bottom of one to hold my bugle tube, and figure that could work for longer lenses if I sew a strap on top.

I have friends who love shoulder-strap-mounted pouches like the WANDRD Route and Hyperlite Camera Pod, but they're too short for the 100-400.
