backpack rifle

Looked at a Proof rifle last night, in 6.5 CM. I have to say I was pretty impressed. 6.1 lbs. With a good optic, ready to go, a bit under 8 lbs.

Pretty tough to buy the parts for the cost of the Proof.

The 3 rifles I use the most are 8#, 10# & 10.6# ....... carry fine for me.

My lightest 5# is similar to what others have done. I made a very compact 44 mag on my encore frame. Honestly more of a truck/farm use set up. Not shot any large game with it. But I've killed a bunch of steel out to 150 yards.

Just checking in to see what you guys think about the weight an caliber of a rifle for backpack hunting for elk?
Last fall, after doing a ton of research and having my heart broke by barrett discontinuing the Fieldcraft, I bought the new Christensen Match Precision Pistol in 308 win. It has a 12.5” barrel, weighs around 5lbs and folds up to small enough to fit inside my pack.

This is a group I shot with it during barrel break in at 300 yards with cheap factory ammo:

I like the VX-3 series. The 3.5-10x40 is 13oz. Mine rides on a M70 Extreme Weather .270 and with my 140gr AB the 14.5 MOA of elevation gets me to 625yards which is beyond expansion range.

The VX-1. The 3-9x40 weighs only 11 ounces.
