I think any baby carrier could work some just have different features than others. I would just research those features and look into what is best for your family. It came down to two different ones for us- the Thule and Osprey. We decided to go with the Thule because at the time two years ago, osprey didn't have side entrance, you could only insert the baby at the top which works well, but we do appreciate the side entry at times too in our Thule as its just a click of a buckle. We have done alot of backcounty hikes and car camping trips with our Thule no issues for these past two years, this summer it will really be put to the test at we are doing some backcountry camping with our son, leaving the vehicle miles behind us! Bottom line look at the specs and what all each pack has to offer and narrow them down by what suits you and your family!

*** BTW GO YOU!!! For getting the littles outdoors! They LOVE IT! No matter how far or how long my son sits in his carrier not once has he been upset in it! To answer your question though we personally haven't used a load sling to carry our son, but you can convince your wife by claiming the 3500 is more than enough room to carry everyone's needs :) while she carries baby in a baby carrier!

I tried rigging up the kifaru but in the end it was just better to use an actual baby carrier. I packed my son around on my front in a tula with a backpack on my back for a lot of miles. As he got bigger I moved to an osprey backpack carrier. Now hes almost three and too big for almost any carrier to be comfortable (44 pounds). I will typically put him on my shoulders or let him walk now. He has killed many animals with me.

I've got a Deuter kid carrier for my 2 year old and the suspension on it sucks. No load lift, small belt, there's a lot not to like about the load transfer.

Luckily I've got several outdated parts and pieces of backpacks laying around that make it easy to ziptie the kid carrier onto a Revolution. It makes a world of difference.

If you're trying to carry a kid just in a load sling, I wouldn't. Kid carriers have safety harnesses and head protection for a reason.

I have a kelty I don’t know what it’s called but it was the more expensive one. I carried my 2 and 3 year old boys around in the flat tops of Colorado last summer without any trouble. I have also carried my 2 year old in it shed hunting without problems. They are always comfortable and I have had them in it for fairly long periods in some pretty rough country.

I’m currently using the Kifaru duplex frame rigged up with an Osprey Poco Premium. I tried to love the Osprey as it was, but honestly after years of using dedicated hunting packs that made heavy (for me) loads reasonably comfortable, I couldn’t stand that the osprey was uncomfortable with relatively minimal weight. We hunted black tail deer on kodiak last summer with our daughter (the 7 months old) in the osprey/kifaru combo, and I was really pleased with how well it carried our daughter, dayhunt gear, and even a rifle.
We have plans to do chilkoot Pass this coming July, and I expect to use the same set up.

You should sent that picture to REI! Here is how a kid carrier is supposed to be used!

I love the deer head on the bottom.
