I’ve been running a solo setup for a while now and currently running one of these:

Tanglefree 360 Solo Blind

Zero complaints and love the blind with some J. Stern Raffia. That said, carrying it efficiently is still a bit of a pain, especially when you’re packing into marsh or longer walk-in spots.

I’m trying to figure out a DIY backpack-style carry system for it—something that:

Initial ideas I’m kicking around:
  • Framing it to a cheap external frame pack
  • Running compression straps + MOLLE panel to secure it flat
  • Possibly adding a PVC or aluminum stay system to stiffen the load
  • Integrating decoy bag straps so I’m not making two trips

Curious if anyone here has already dialed in a system for this:

Trying to keep it simple and durable.

Wanted to add that my typical load out is the solo 360, approx 6-7 decoys on texas rigs and shotgun/shells. Would love to be able to put this all on my back and keep my hands free.

Theres a few options, if you wanna go with something from a company, or theres 100s of DIY blinds on YouTube.

Not sure the type of waterfowl hunting your doing: marsh/swamp, fields, big water? Can you toss your stuff in a jet sled?

A few spots I have, if i cant get my atv, truck or trailer full of decoys out there. If got to walk my stuff in, I have one of these:

Theres different manufacturers over the years. Mine are old Gander Mountain brand blinds and I wouldnt trade them for anything.

But if Im going duck hunting in my marsh spot, I put a couple spinners. Half doz deeks and a layout blanket in the bag, take my gun on a sling or in my floating gun case over my shoulder and hump em in. Put my ammo in my wader pouch, calls over my neck, a head lamp on my head (then in my pocket) face mask on my neck and walk in. Lay on the bank of the pot hole and hope ducks finish right in front of me.

Or if I'm really loaded. I put the gun on top of the bag and fold the pad over it and tighten down the clip and it holds the gun in place leaving my hands free. My brother will do the same but he will carry his dog blind.

One really wet year. I didnt want to chance driving out in a corn field, so I walked out with this blind/decoy bag and a jet sled in tow.

Blind/bag on my back, and I think I was able to put an extra 5 doz dive bomb bag in blind large pocket, and tossed another 5 doz silhouettes, my blind bag and gun in a jet sled and shot my limit of geese in 30 min. (See attached pic).

For years we brought these to North Dakota hunting public land pot holes and we would each have one. If it was too wet near the bank, we put swamp seats in the bags and just sit in the reeds in the marsh and put the bags on the shore.

It all varies and gives me versatility. Its super low profile, and leaves a small foot print. Its amazing what you can haul with this setup. And if I got a few guys we each share the gear and hump our stuff in easy.

A few yrs ago, one of the other companies even had slots on the side of the bag that you could put a spinner or gun sleeve. But I couldnt find that pic in my google search. Like I said, this blind bag has been made by several companies.

It comes with a covering that you can add brush top for additional concealment. Or just go buy some different blankets to match your surroundings.

I have a buddy with the solo 360° and he loves it, but he will make a couple trips for the blind, decoys, gear & dog.

Now, all that being said, this isnt the onlh option. You're running a 360° Solo.

Theres also chair blinds:

I dont have one of these. Just cuz it appears difficult to fold and set up and haul in/out.

But its an option. I have zero experience with these blind/chairs. Its piqued my interest. But until someone comes up with a simpler way to haul them in/out and put on my back, I'll wait.

Plus, to have to blind these things every hunt. I like the simplicity of my layout bag and a ghille blanket.

Correct me if Im wrong, but it folds into a flat 22”x44”x6” package, right? Bigger on one end than the other.

A cheap pack frame (alpz?) would likely carry it, or you could DIY something. It’s either tall or wide though so going to catch on stuff. Id be tempted to put your gun and decoys in a jet sled and bungee this on top, and drag it—even on land. That wont work everywhere obviously, but is likely the lowest-pain method.

I built a similar size/shape blind that rolls up similar size, but only weighs about 10lb all-in. I usually carry it in the sled.

Diy ideas: being bigger on one end you should be able to buckle a strap around it that wont slip as long as the bigger end is up. Either find a pack or frame that will buckle around it this way, or attach pack straps to an upper and lower strap around the blind…
