Well I dry fired my Pro Defiant yesterday and now am shooting my "back up", a Power Max. I shoot it every so often to remind myself how it feels and and to make sure it is tuned and all. That got me wondering who has a back up and how often do you shoot it? I think more would be better for me.

Currently, none. I am shooting my "back up" after selling my primary. After reading several threads of dry fires and such, I am definitely paying close attention to what I am doing.

I don't currently have a backup but when I buy a nice longbow I'm going to keep my takedown recurve for that purpose, and also for friends to shoot with my first set of light limbs. I'm not anal about two of everything but the bow is one of the few things you truly need to hunt.

I shoot all year almost every day. Normally not too worried but I was tired (hadn't slept well the night before) and was just getting done fighting a slight tuning issue. Bam! That string cracked like whip. If it would have happened a month ago, no big deal but a week before season! Only damage was the strings and a plastic spacer and circlip on the bottom cam axle. I freaked and ordered a new bow yesterday. A brand new Helix is on the way and should get here Thursday with a couple of days to set it up and tune.

I always have two set up, an open country rig and whitetail set up....more often the not I have third bow in the mix, it usually one that is coming or going.

I have three bows, so I have two backups but generally only take one bow hunting. Since my primary already has a splinter in one limb, I will be taking a backup with me this year. All three are set up and ready to go year round.

After my bow blew up a couple weeks ago, I will always have a back up of some sort! Got new limbs and cams for the primary and final have it tuned up again. The backup is still disassembled but I will get it running before leaving for wyoming in 10 days. There’s just too much that can go wrong with archery and too much time and money in these hunts to not have one anymore.

I have too many bows as it is. Normally shooting 3 at any one time, a hunting bow, target bow, a play around bow(one that is around 60# and I experiment with different things with, might shoot target or hunt with) then also some stick bows in the mix. My main hunting bow I always have an extra set of shot in strings for.

I could hunt with my target bow, black and fixed pins with short stabilizer.

I just like shooting a bow.

Two things. One, nobody thinks twice about having more than one gun. And two how much practice time with your back up.

Too many variables as to how much practice time. Depends on how similar the bows are, I generally set most mine up close to each other. I shoot everything with about the same grip.

Really the question is how far are you expecting to shoot your backup bow? Are you willing to cut your distance in half? If so you really don't need to shoot it that much I'd suspect, if you want to have the same effective range you need to probably shoot it a lot more. Depends on how much difference there is between the two or 5 bows.

Treat it like you would your main bow, shoot your broadheads and have a distance you are 100% confident in, might not be quite as far, but it's something.

Of course you could just go traditional and be good to go in a month. @

Personally, I had (down to one at the moment) both bows set up as close to the same as possible. Sights, rests, Stab etc. I shot both at 100 for practice and expected to be good out to 60 for hunting. Broadheads shot with the FPs too.
This am with the backup 20 30 40 50 60

Yep got a back up that isnt really a back up. I practice with both equally and they are setup to shoot the same arrows.

I’m new to archery, but after being out of my bow for about a month this summer due to PSE being completely out of the parts I needed for my bow, it’s making me seriously consider purchasing a back up. If this would have happened during the season, I’d have been entirely screwed.

I currently have one main bow that is my primary setup, and I have two bows that are deemed as my backups. All are different brands, and have exact components installed to keep things consistent.

I shoot my main bow typically 5 nights a week and will rotate in a backup once per week.

I’m always looking to add one more bow to the arsenal though....

I’m going to use this thread as further evidence that I need a second bow. “Really, when you think of all the time and effort I put in getting ready for the fall, it’d be irresponsible for me NOT to have a backup.”

Two bows ready to go. Shoot both every week. About to buy a third which will become primary.

This thread and my experience last year got me to purchase a back up bow.

Brand new realm ss is on the way...

Btw while SR6s are tough to find it is possible to find brand new SS for very, very good deals right now.
