Back from South Africa

I recently returned from my hunting safari with Africa Maximum Safaris in South Africa. For this hunt, I chose the sable package and added on eland, kudu, blesbok, and red hartebeest. I took my CVA Cascade 7 PRC with the 175gr Barnes TSX. I had one shot kills on everything except for the blesbok. He was at 290 yards and fell on the first shot. However, we had to give him a follow-up shot because he tried to get up when we approached him with the vehicle. Plus, I don't want to see an animal suffer and die slowly. The first shot was a touch high. Everything else were one-shot kills. My load is 73.3 grains of N570, COL 3.215", ADG brass, and GM215M primers. It runs 3050 fps. I'm extremely impressed with this rifle and bullet combo.

It was awesome. I had to spot and stalk the blesbok and sable. Everything else I was able to shoot off the top of the truck. I got really lucky because it's really thick bush in many of the places we hunted.

Yeah, I took my own. All I did was put the make, model, and serial number on the US CBP Form 4457 with the rifle and scope info. No issues at all.

Sweet trip. It blows me away at the amount of different animals you can encounter in Alaska - I mean Africa.

What do you get to keep from the animals on trips like this? Horns, hide, meat? Does your outfitter help you get it home?

There are dozens of huntable species in Namibia and South Africa.

You can only bring the hides and horns back to the US. The USDA prevents us from bringing meat back. Yeah, the outfitter will assist you with the dip and pack if you don't plan on having the taxidermy done in the local country.

You killed each species on my dream plains game hunt. Were you in South Africa the whole trip? Did you use Johannesburg, Cape Town or both for air? I want to do this trip with my wife soon and I'd like to visit Cape Town with her while there.

I'm getting shoulder mounts for the eland, kudu, and sable. Euro mounts for the blesbok and red hartebeest. I'm using Splitting Image Taxidermy in South Africa this time. They are pricey, but do great work.

I only ate kudu and nyala on this trip. However, I think springbok is the best I have had. That was in Namibia.
