I'm looking for a rifle stock like a B&C, but lighter weight. It also has to be in the same price range.

FWIW, this stock is going on a Remington Model Seven 7 SAUM.

Wildcat composite out of Canada looks like an option if you can do finish work.
17.5 ultralight and 23 oz regular
I haven't personally used them but wish I had known about them before I bought a b&c

The old adage of lightweight, durable, cheap comes to mind. Can't have all 3, so you have to determine which two are most important to you.
I am not aware of anything in the B&C price range that will be lighter, shaving oz/lbs will cost you. McMillan, Manners, MPI come to mind, but those are near the cost of a new rifle, but also are the lightest weight options. I know this isnt much help, but I think if you do find something that is lightweight and the price of a B&C stock might have durability issues.

I have a B&C medalist on a Savage which I thought would lighten the gun from the factory stock, but it made it heavier.

I have B&C medalist on a M700 and Model Seven and love their look and feel. I just wish they were a little lighter.

My understanding is wildcat pricing is in Canadian dollars so exchange puts it pretty close price wise

That's pretty much it.

If you are willing to do the fitting/bedding/finishing you can try a Bansner.

Wildcat is a Canadian company so it's cheaper to buy using American currency is what I was trying to point out

Got it. I thought you meant it was closer in price to the more expensive stocks that were discussed in the later posts.

Nothing good is ever cheap, and nothing cheap is ever good. Sell some crap you don't use/like and get a McMillan set up exactly how you want.

as good of advice as you'll find here and better than most I'd thing - McMillan has been doing their thing as long or longer than most (MPI was also a pioneer in ultra light rifle stocks, I met Doc, no longer with us, in his garage in St. John's , OR too many years ago to mention) "good" costs $$$ = FACT

Do the McMillan stocks look as ugly in person as they do in pictures? They have a cheap plastic look to them in pictures.

You can make it look like anything from baby shit to McWoody to solid black to buck nekked carbon fiber with the "edge" fill. McMillan will do any damn thing you want. I think the Kuiu dip is even on the table now.
