I was somehow able to get an AZ OTC archery deer tag finally. Have tried the last couple years and haven't been able to get one. This year I was fast enough, which is crazy coz they sold out in like 8 min. I am planning on a trip to unit 32 in January. I have hunted coues deer one time in with a rifle and it was tough. I have been wanting another chance to hunt them again. Was hoping to have opertunities to see both coues and mule deer to make the most out a trip. Any suggestions for hunting coues with a bow would be much appreciated. I know it will be tough, but I am going to give it a go. Thanks guys.

6A is already closed for mule and coues deer. Probably a good idea to check the harvest tracker before you poach a deer in a closed unit.

I see that now, I have just started making a plan and I guess I should start there. I hunted 32 last time and it looks like there are still plenty of deer on the quota list.

Yes almost all of those southern units should be open in January. They will be a lot better than 6A, you will see a lot more Coues deer and the weather will be nicer. I would be up early to glass a buck until it beds down and then make a stalk on it. Rinse and repeat until you make it happen. Sitting water mid day can also be effective. Coues deer will often get up from their beds between 10am-2pm and feed around for a few minutes before bedding down again for the rest of the day. Hiking in a mile or so away from a road will get you away from 90% of the other hunters. Good luck!
