Hey Guys, what are your thoughts on the Axis Jacket vs the Guide Pro? I have an original Guide from 2016 and am wanting a soft shell upgrade. I was think Axis because the better wind blockage and waterproofing. Plus it is on a killer sale right now. Has anyone compared the two?

Looking for info on choosing between these two. Sounds like the pro is a big improvement over the old guide, talking to
Kuiu. Axis Seems like less pockets and more waterproof than the guide pro🤷.

I own both - the guide has a fuller cut overall (especially in the sleeves) - they are about the same level of insulation - the Guide might breathe a smidge better but the Axis breaks the wind better and due to its hybrid design can handle light rain a bit better. But neither is a substitute for raingear in any kind of enduring rain. Also, the sleeves of the Axis are a bit more tapered.

and that’s the new guide pro? Sounds like axis is the way to go then?

I never said the Axis was the way to go - just providing information to point out how they differ. They are constructed from different material and have different cuts/designs. So, each will be better suited to different environments, types of hunts and layering systems.

Yes, I have the Guide Pro. A bit more detail on what stood out to me when comparing the two:

Guide Pro - Improved Softshell
- Fuller cut in the same size = better for layering over a broader range of seasons
- Stretchier in the chest/shoulders = less restrictive when drawing a bow
- Larger Hood
- More pockets and better storage overall
- Insulates about the same as the Axis while breathing a smidge better

Axis - Hybrid Softshell
- Water resistant shoulder panels
- A bit better wind/rain resistance than Guide Pro while just slightly less breathable
- A more tapered cut overall, especially in the sleeves = limits layering
- Shoulder panels while more water resistant are more restrictive = drawing bow???
- Fewer pockets and less storage

The GP is more of an improved Softshell while the AX appears to be more of an attempt to bridge the gap between a soft and hard shell. I prefer the AX for sheep, goat and hunting above the tree line where one is always fully exposed and the wind never stops. Both have robust pits-zips for adequate ventilation. But make no mistake - neither will substitute for raingear. For hunts where I anticipate more layering I’d likely lean more toward the GP. Also, as a long-time bow hunter I really try to avoid using any garment that feels like it might tend to restrict or impact my natural draw cycle.

Just finished a Yukon Sheep Hunt where the Axis was my primary jacket and I found it superb for that kind of hunt/environment.

Anyway, that is my experience - but YMMV.
