I find it funny that JVB is labeled as anti small bore, yet is shooting elk way out there with a 6.5 creed. He has a 22 creed and I have no doubt he’s taken deer with it. Professional gun writers shoot a really wide variety of cartridges to the extremes on both ends - and make money talking people through the drama in all the tribal camps. Lol

The funniest thing about the 223 crowd, besides how often they are shooting animals multiple times, is the mantra they are shooting so much more accurately, while sharing all the giant groups shot with a bipod and rear bag. I hope they never change - good kids, and they always make me smile. *chuckle*

I'm far from a 223 crowd person, but at least they are throwing up their targets. I won't blame the caliber for the shortcomings of the shooter. I have not seen half the number of targets from the big magnum crowd, especially not 20 and 30 rd groups.

Imagine being so entrenched in your position you made fun of people for practicing, and hated on supported shooting. Good thing you shoot a magnum that will kill them just by flying nearby, cuts down on the practice ammo costs.

Tyler Freel literally just addressed this idea in his 22ARC moose vid - this idea that shooting multiple times is bad is hilarious. Like the single shot is some kind of magical hope - I mean bang/flop is cool, but not dependable. Meanwhile, shooting mags into big animals multiple times because they are "tough" and you need all of that power is held up (mountain goats being good example) in the oppositte, supportive fashion. Shoot till their down is always a saying with elk, because they are big and tough. Yet doing that with a smaller cartridge is bad?

I hope people like you never change... It makes me smile to think that people look down on different ways of doing things as inferior simply because it isn't their way. The mental gymnastics are truly a beautiful sight to behold. I always enjoy finding gold medal worthy mental gymnastics or mental masturbation performances. Good boomers, they always make me smile.

You aren’t wrong. Usually I enjoy pointing out the ideas that are mostly absurd, or completely wacky.

The ideas that have a good chance of being a better mousetrap aren’t completely lost on me - I do have a handful of fast twist cartridges to see what the fuss is all about - of course they will have to overcome a number of my biases and may never get a fair shake - for hunting distances most are marketing driven. Likewise, converting an old way of holding the rifle and pulling the trigger, that works quite well, for a shooting style that is barely a dozen years old, still has me on the fence. So far, I don’t doubt that it’s marginally better in some situations, but it also comes up short in others.

It warms the heart so many guys are interested in long range shooting - watching new guys struggle, figure it out, and become really effective shooters is like watching kids grow up.

In the end, pinning a paper plate to a tree, the shooter either hits it or not. It’s independent of the rifle brand, cartridge, type of scope, shooting style, or anything else. Old geezers have the benefit of having been shooting for longer, but new groups should have higher hit ratios or something is wrong and what they are doing is not actually better. *chuckle*

I'm blasting sub 100 pound deer at sub 10p yards with a 338 and 375 this year. Will post necropsy pictures for wallop analysis

Perhaps there needs to be a “338 and up for squirrels/rabbits/grouse/etc” thread to compile a useful data set on the effectiveness of these manly-man sized bullets on game? Belts optional, or split in two by powder capacity?

I actually would like to see some large caliber necropsies side by side with the small caliber stuff. See who can tell the difference.

Jvb's experience with small caliber target bullets was interesting. Most of them were bang flop and he basically said they aren't enough because of no exit. Reminded me of that quote a bullet maker said...can't remember who...but it's something like at what point in the animals death did the bullet fail?

I shot an antelope with a 300nmi and 245 hybrids at a very long way. He dropped on the spot. There was a big hole and he was very dead. 😝

Planning on culling some does in a couple weeks. Going to let my buddy shoot my 6 creed with 108 eldms and I'm going to try a 215 berger out of a 300prc. It will be cool to see the difference.

Agreed. Only time I dabble in any sort of podcast is when I have a 10+ hour drive. Have an 18 hour drive coming up to Idaho for a depredation hunt. Might checkout what this JVB thing is about.
Podcasts became something for me to learn new gear and tech while I’m driving to and from job sites….i could never imagine sitting in front of a computer during daylight hours watching the YouTube version….do people actually do this? I ONLY listen while driving! Well long story short…..since I downloaded Apple Podcasts and started following different platforms my auto insurance contacted me and said my mileage went up 50% so now my premiums are higher…..

You need to read more threads on this site. Less talking and more photo evidence is the Rokslide way.

Photo evidence is no evidence at all. Prove to me a particular bullet truly did (or didn't do) that damage based on a static photo.

Yeah. Didn't think so.

Otherwise it's just testimony, much like someone that's so confident in their opinion they think it's "proven fact"...

I'm just surprised no one has brought into the conversation that private land elk are easier to kill then public land elk. #keepwokeRS
