If any one is an agent or knows the ins and outs could you PM me.
I have few questions about what all is covered on a vehicle.
Alot of us dump a bunch of money into accessories(bumpers, winches, ect). Are those things covered?

Thanks

Start with your policy. No one agent will be able to tell you what’s covered under your particular policy.

Not really sure about add ons to your vehicle, you may need a rider to cover those. I do know anything in the vehicle, not actually part of the vehicle, tools, camping gear, and such will be covered under your home owners insurance. That is how it was handled when my truck got stolen. I think someone went by and saw me loading up for a camping trip, and though, there is a good truck to steal. The insurance Co. had me go out and buy all new gear and they reimbursed me after I sent in all my receipts. Not all coverages are the same so you best read over your policy and question agent if you are not sure how to decipher the lawyer lingo in policy.

Generally, aftermarket upgrades over $2000 will need additional insurance. I have custom suspension on order right now so just looked into it.

My state farm agent told me that mods didn't make any difference unless I modified the body and/ or frame. I've got a Carli Suspension, headache rack and lighting on my Dodge and have shown it to them. If you put a flatbed on your rates will go up substantially.

Obviously, every state and service could be different. I just looked through this again and looks like Progressive dropped from 2k to 1k without additional insurance for aftermarket mods, and it is indeed specific to suspension and non body/frame upgrades. This is in CO, FYI. With the price tag on your suspension, I’d verify what that agent told you. Insurance companies aren’t in the business of extending coverage for expensive upgrades.

The endorsement is called custom parts and equipment. It is a blanket limit endorsement. Like someone else said, it varies by company but many have a $1000-$2000 limit included. After that, it cost a little more. Keep receipts. As someone else said, it varies by state and company. Call your agent and pick his brain. If he can't help, find a new agent.

Thanks for all the replies.
This is what mine says. Screenshot_20230209_075027_OneDrive.jpgScreenshot_20230209_075052_OneDrive.jpg
Basically my jeep was totalled and had a roof rack, bumper, winch, lift and tire carrier. The adjustor is saying they don't add value because they are personal preference items.
I thought insurance was there to help replace items that are damaged due to an accident.
If my house burns down they give me money to replace the items in it not just the house value. Right?

This sucks. Bad. But you should change your line of thinking towards your insurance: Your insurance is there to make money off your premiums and that is it. They aren’t in the business of replacing items and paying out claims. As posted above, aftermarket upgrades will often have to be insured. You might see if you can remove these items. I asked a salvage yard owner if I could ever score aftermarket bumpers, rock sliders etc and said he almost never, ever sees them come in on vehicles. If they don’t add value to the vehicle then it would stand to reason that you could take them as personal property, but my intuition tells me your insurance agency won’t see it that way even though they won’t cover them.

Are you still in control of the vehicle? If those items aren't damaged I'd take them off. If it's not covered then it should be no concern of the agent.

There was no saving the bumper and winch. The roof rails brackets broke, the tire carrier in the back broke and well your not pulling the lift out of it at the yard. 20230126_120717.jpg

Before and after photos are what saved me with insurance as I didn't have the receipts anymore.
