ATV rifle cases

Wondering what people that use ATVs are using to hold their guns. Something someone can't just walk off with would be best. I may use my ATV to get to a trail head at the end of a bad road this year. I have looked around and mostly see the Kolpin ones. Some bad reviews though. Any suggestions?

Also, I am looking for a universal type mount.

I ride with mine across my back or across my chest, so it doesn't bounce around in a case.

If that was an option I wouldn't be asking for case suggestions.

I thought of the soft case and a gun rack type mount.

I have the Polaris gun scabbard and don't really care for it. I usually just leave the gun in a soft case and bungee it down to the storage rack, works fine.

I have a gun rack type mount across the front rack, the type with the padded Y forks, that I set my rifle in and go. I do try and put my rifle in my Gun Slicker cover to keep the dust and weather off the rifle. I see no need for gun boots that get in the way or gun cases that need strapped down and secured when getting left with the ATV.

There is a need when the law requires it. From what I have read both CO and AZ where I will be hunting require it, therefore I need it. If someone can point me to info that says I don't need the case that would be great.

I ran around AZ just like I do in UT with the rifle on the rack. Wouldn't surprise me that it's required in CO with the way there laws are changing.

AZ states that "When carrying a rifle or shotgun on an OHV, it should be unloaded and put in a case that is firmly attached to the vehicle."

Is this a law or a suggestion?

I'm no lawyer, but "should" is a suggestion. "Must" would be the word to use to make it directive. Once again, I'm not a lawyer so you "should" not take this as legal advice.

Oh, and I used to use a Kolpin, but my rifle banged around inside and wore through the finish. I ended up switching to the fork style and mounting it across the front of the back rack. That gives me quick access and the ability to protect it from branches and whatnot.

I run a kolpin setup in the truck and on the ATV. It works great and I drilled the holes slightly larger to accommodate a long master lock. It's a deterrent for sure because we all know if a thief wants something they will find a way. I use the hard plastic mount for the quad and a modified metal mount to slide in the bed rail on my Toyota. It's nice because the case is very padded and elevated so it doesn't impede storage.
