Atlasworx vs Mtn Tactical Tikka DBM

Anyone have experienced with both? I like that the Atlasworx is $100 cheaper. Prefer the shorter magazine latch on the Mtn Tac, but not sure if it’s worth the higher price.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but both can accept Magpul Pmags? The MT requires a little sanding on the pmag sides, not sure about the Atlas.

Can anyone comment on the differences between both, and if one is better than the other? These will be installed on a T3X factory stock, and I know either require a little sanding which is fine with me.

Thanks.

All MagPul mags require modification to function with Tikka rifles. The problem lies with the action-magazine interface, not the bottom metal. They’re cheaper and lighter, but there have been some long-term durability issues reported with modified Pmags.

That’s really good info. I hadn’t heard of any issues with modified Magpul mags.
So say I avoid using pmags and stick to metal AI mags. Is there any reason to pay $200 vs $110 for the Atlasworx? Because now instead of $35 for a pmag we’re talking about $100 a mag for metal AI mags.

Long or short action? At the end of the day, they’re good, functional bottom metals. I think the fit and finish on the Mountain Tactical is better than Atlasworx, but both will get the job done.

I’ve tried pretty much every Tikka bottom metal on the market, and settled on Red Snake Tactical for my most recent build. I like that the mag latch is flush with the bottom of the trigger guard, so it’s much harder to accidentally bump it. They use 5-round single stack AI mags, which run about $75 and save some weight over the ten rounders, which I appreciate as it’s primarily a hunting rifle. I’ve got an aftermarket stock, but I tried fitting it in the factory stock. Took a bit of elbow grease, but it popped in with no sanding required.

Long Action.
I did just receive an email from Atlas and they said for an extra $20 they can include another hidden latch that I can install and swap with the long one. I assume hidden latch means a flush or recessed one of some sort.
I was always planning on using a 5 round mag, as this is also a hunting gun. AI mags cost around $95, but maybe there’s other metal AI mags that work in the Atlas. I’ll look around.
Doesn’t the Redsnake not afford as much OAL as these two? Thought I read that somewhere.

Maybe a dumb question, but what’s the purpose of installing a different bottom metal, just to accept different mags? Get rid of the plastic?

Ah, copy. All my Tikkas are short action. I’m not well-versed in the AI long action mags. The Atlasworx CTR bottom metal has a latch that follows the curvature along the sides of the trigger guard. Maybe that’s what they are referring to.

To allow reloading bullets to the lands. With the factory mags, you have to keep the bullets shorter and it can be a big jump to the lands.

So why not just go with something like this and not have to buy a new bottom metal and magazines?

Because that’s for short action magnums. You can do that with short mags and swap the short action bolt stop to a long action bolt stop. True long actions, no such luck.

I had trouble with the atlas works bottom metal that I had. It was on a Bell and Carlson, so maybe that had something to do with it. I wanted to keep running factory mags, and went with the one from High Desert outdoors. Atlas works also wouldn’t take a return very well, if I recal, so I was out on the deal.

I much preferred the high desert one.
