This is more of an AR scope and not really a hunting scope but I figured id give a little review because when I was searching I couldnt find much about these.
I bought this to put on a 16" 5.56 AR for a plinking/home defense/ (insert any tacticool acronym) role. Its 15 oz, 5x magnification, easy to see reticle, decent illumination( red/green), rmr mount built in on top, and budget friendly.
The eye relief seems better then ive read of the other competing options. Id say its around 2.7-3" with an acceptable eye box to go with it. The glass is bright and clear/ crisp, with a little bit of distortion around the edges but nothing I cant get over. No FOV numbers on their website or anywhere else published but im pleased to say the fov is about 5-7ft bigger then a trijicon 1-6 set at 5x looking at same target/ same distance.
The mount kind of leaves a little to be desired, it uses t10 cross bolts instead of t15 or bigger and doesn't have any cantilever to be able to mount irons behind it and still have eye relief set correct. Haven't taken it apart to see if it could use acog mounts to remedy this.
Today while I was checking it out it was somewhat overcast but still fairly bright out and sun was directly overhead. The illumination was visible but definitely didnt pop. The red seemed brighter then the green which is odd because i've read that its easier to get green brighter then red in optics. Its no acog illumination but its useable.
The reticle is easy to see and find naturally with your eye. 2moa center dot is not to big to make hits at distance but would be a little large for precision work forsure. There is no reticle dimensions or breakdown in the manual that I saw but seems to be a simple ballistic drop reticle with some hasty wind hold hashes. Ill figure it out over the next few shooting sessions with it.
The red dot mounting surface (really the whole scope)looked eerily similar to the vortex spitfire 5x prism so I was worried it was going to be the vortex venom mounting pattern but it is RMR pattern. That gives alot more options for top mounting a RDS. Will be mounting one up soon. Athlon included the 6-32 screws need to mount a RDS on top.
Like I said the whole scope looked alot like the vortex 5x but it is atleast slightly different. About 1" longer, 4oz heavier, non skeletonized mount. From what I can read it seems to have a better eye box and eye relief then the vortex option as well. Probably comes out of the same factory though.
All in im pretty happy with it, atleast on first impressions. May mess around do a drop test with it if I keep shooting it and liking it. If your looking for a budget prism optic for an AR or even for a simple and lightweight tree stand hunting scope these flares may be worth a look.
I've attached some pictures so you can see the reticle, illumination, and side profile of it mounted.
