Aston sonic for elk?

I’m asking opinions before I buy this arrow. For elk, deer at 30 yard max distance, and shooting at 100 yard practice targets. Bow is 29 draw length, 72 pound bow.

Arrow length 29 at 8.8 300 spine = 255
Nock and vanes = 28
Brass insert = 50
Broadhead/point = 125

So that puts me around 458 total weight. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this setup and the sonics in general. Thanks.

Fantastic setup. I'd skip the brass insert - put a collar (footer) on them for added strength on hard impacts. The brass is just a mass thing and isn't any stronger than most aluminum. I don't see the point in adding mass just for FOCS sake. FOC is just a byproduct of having a durable components - so put a collar on it and make it more durable.

Penetration is dictated by the broadhead primarily - arrow mass is low on this list. If you land at 435 grains I wouldn't sweat it at all. Unless you're trying to push a big head through - then maybe get to 470.

I do custom arrows so I've got a lot of components/shafts/vanes around. It's pretty slow in the winter so if you need anything hit me up.

I agree with what is said above. First of all at your specs that would be a great setup for just about any north american game you could go after. For deer and elk thats exactly where I would want to be. Like said above I am not a fan of just standard inserts. Because if you hit something hard they have a tendency to mushroom the tip of your arrow on impact. So IMO a collar would be a great idea and you could get a lighter insert with a collar and probably end up pretty similar to the specs above. The sonics also have a pretty good GPI so getting a decent FOC shouldn't be any issues at all.

I'd add - You might have a tough time reaching out to 100 yds with that setup (depending on sight). You'd want to go 25 grains lighter and 4 fletch for scope clearance. Then you'd likely be fine.

It’s the axcel landslide 3 pin. Yeah I was going to fletch my shafts myself.
