Arrow Spine?

Hoping some of you with more experience would be able to help, currently shooting a Mathews V3 - 29" draw, pulling 70lb and my arrow length is 31 3/16.

Current arrow setup is Victory RIP TKO, 300 spine with 175g up front (75g half out insert and 100g broadhead), wanting to switch back to the Easton Axis......my question is, do I go with 300 or 340 spine, I have heard and read from that easton/mathews interview the V3 likes weaker spines. Curious on anyone's experience with similar specs? I am a Midwest whitetail hunter.

Easton has an arrow spine calculator, based on your inputs I came up with 300-250 spine.

300 spine 5mm Axis cut 29" carbon-to-carbon with a 100 gr head and 16 gr aluminum HIT would give you close to the same total weight as your current arrow and would be near "optimal" spine-wise according to Pinwheel.

How does the FOC work out on that one? You shoot the front of the shelf? what size vanes or feathers? This stuff effects your spin like the 100 gr broadhead vs 125 etc. Easton used to have a pamplet that had some good charts and info to help you out. Can you go to your local shop and shot one of each through paper? That will make the decision for you.

LW, a stiffer spine tunes great in a modern compound….AND it gives you a more durable hunting arrow. I have 3 decades plus of shooting a stiffer spine hunt arrow in multiple compounds.

This, and, with a 29" DL, my arrow would be closer to 28. No reason to have a 31" arrow with 29" DL.

If you want to shoot a 340 then you need to cut that arrow down to 28” and don’t shoot so much weight up front. If you like the weight up front then a 300 spine would be better but I would still cut that arrow to 28”. My set up is a Hoyt Carbon Element 73# 28” draw length. Arrow is an Easton FMJ 340 cut to 27” 50 grain hit and 100 grain broadhead. My other arrow is an Easton Axis 340, 27”, 50 grain hit, 100 grain broadhead.

Mathews just say that as a flex due to their impeccable nock travel. The theory however is complete horse shit.
