I think you tell them that this is no way representative of the wider hunting community and that all ethical hunters would agree that messing with a wounded animal is cruel and that animals should be dispatched as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimize suffering even predators hard to explain away what that video was though it’s going upset like 95% of hunters and 100% of the general population…
Again, I don’t like the video. I agree that almost everyone is going to dislike that video. And still I wouldn’t call it cruelty from a thirty second clip. But I am also a big believer in trying to assume the best of people. It could absolutely be cruelty if there’s enough context about weapon and ammo availability… but that context doesn’t exist right now.

I’ve had to free deer from a fence before, and it was a terrible choice between slitting its throat or hoping it would regain the ability to walk after blood flow was restored. If that deer got eaten by coyotes after dark cause he couldn’t run, me freeing him was the cruel decision. The circumstances interpret the judgement.

Anyways, I’ve contributed more than enough to this thread. I’m going to bow out now. Thanks for the civil discussion.

His response isnt bad.

Sounds like its a blessing in disguise for him anyway.

We all make mistakes, only thing about now vs back then is folks love cameras and to eventually find something to become famous.

Terrible spot light for the hunting industry, which he even admits. So far hes done more admitting then MF.

Not a good look for the hunting community. Don’t film anything you’re not willing to face consequences for. We’ve all don’t stupid $h!t, some of us were fortunate it was before clear cellphone video.

You asked how to explain it to non hunters, I was giving you an idea, i understand how you think it’s not cruelty. I can all but guarantee that anyone who sees it will view it as cruelty. Perception= reality these days. It’s pure cope to try and tell people to not believe their eyes, and ummm errm actually he is doing this coyote a favor…. Doesn’t matter what we have is a 12 second clip that absolutely looks awful to the public eye.

Quick story, my best friend had an absolute goat rope rodeo last year Mt. goat hunting. He did the right/ ethical thing. It resulted in a kid goat getting its throat slit, after a bad initial shot and then other misfortunes. It was hard for him to tell me, he was embarrassed and upset, in no world would he have thought of filming this event and sharing or gloating over it. The 12 seconds ooze of gloating/ look at me, weird machismoism. We have to be better as hunters. Full stop

Im definatly in the camp of this video isnt nearly as bad as people make it to be in terms of what happens when shit gets western. I dont see torture in this at all. I guess i picture this playing out as shooting a coyote at distance thinking its dead and leaving the gun behind so theres less shit to carry. The coyote ended up not being dead and the knife was the quickest option.
That doesnt excuse the thougt of video taping it. Bit ive seen several people i know do dumb stuff while hunting when buddies are around and video it. They to eventualy got tickets because videos just never stay private.

100% was none and anyone who thinks there was is simply naive.
Rodney, the entire general population is extremely disconnected from hunting, how will they view this, how will they vote when it’s time to at the ballot box, even as a hunter this is an awful look and it’s cope to pretend that the knife taps and kicks and grins weren’t over the top. It was a stupid act at the time and an even dumber decision to film it

clearly he didnt film it and im confident he never posted it. Possibly discussed it on Kifarucast. This is so blown out of proportion.

He looks at the camera a few times, he knew what he was doing. My question is if this was a deer or an elk and he was doing his little dancing and knife taps and would you still think it was just as innocent in your opinion, and really your opinion/ my opinion doesn’t matter at all. What matters is the 2 million voters who watch this and think: oh man hunters are absolute twisted assholes

would also appreciate cliff notes or summary of his response

Accepted responsibility
Apologized
Agrees it didn’t look good
Explains what happened and why he did it
Respects BP’s decision of firing him
Clarifies the video was shot in 2019-2020
Says the video was shot in TX and not WY
This could be a blessing in disguise
Plans to get off of social media
Thanks those that gave him support
Don’t hold BP responsible for his actions

Never said he wasnt aware it was being videoed....im so over what 2 million 🤡 voters think. You will find the "majority" is also sickened by trapping.

Well that’s a good response from him, doesn’t really stop the damage that will come of it but owned up to it.

Which is why we don’t have it as a method of conservation in many many states, maybe we should be a little concerned, or we can pretend that we are all just super duper tough guys online, and if they outlaw stuff we won’t comply… but I’m guessing you pay taxes still and follow most laws cause getting hauled to prison would suck

I watched the video. He was absolutely trying to inflict harm during the "dispatch" process by kicking and stabbing it the way that he did. Why? Because this guy has psychopathic tendencies and the brain of a cave man.

Callousness, emotional detachment, lack of empathy, internal aggression, narcissism. If this clown is an accurate representation of today's greater hunting community, count me out.
