Arizona Deer Draw Started

Yeah I drew the late November into early December hunt as well. Never been guided on any hunt in my life but would consider taking a trip out with the coues legend Duwayne Adams.

Duwayne's guide license was revoked. But his family might possibly still be offering hunts.

He was a really nice guy when I met him. I’m waiting to hear the whole story but it’s sad to hear his career ends on a sour note
Duwayne got caught baiting, he's done for

I was genuinely surprised he was caught for that since he had the reputation as the one of the early promoters of glassing with big binos on a tripod. His book on Coues deer hunting was also very helpful for me.

I guess it’s easier to glass up coues and Kaibab bucks next to a homer bucket of corn? Or maybe it was just for January mule deer?

Yep I had heard rumors but wasn't sure what was actual fact.
Definitely fact. I’ve looked at the court records and listened to the AZGFD commission meeting where they pulled his hunt license. No hunt license means you can’t have a guide license so that ends that. There is still an open investigation for other things so more may be coming down the road.

I listened to that part of the meeting as well. He got his hunting license revoked for a few years but the ongoing investigation could provide the basis for a permanent revocation. I haven’t heard anything else since though.

I still haven’t heard why he was doing it, he didn’t seem like the guy who needed a pile of corn to find a buck. But the officer in the hearing sounded like it was pretty much an open and shut case.

Still disappointing, of all the shenanigans, fiascos, and other assorted nonsense in AZ (e.g., JJ bull, powerline buck, apache reservation = 23E, N kaibab bison), I thought he was one of the good guides.

The department spent a huge amount of man hours (forgetting the actual amount but it was a lot) gathering evidence and surveilling him. The officer stated they followed and watched him purchase the bait. I assume they watched him place it in the field as well. The commission was gunning for the permanent ban. Supposedly there was an old earlier infraction but the paperwork had been tossed. When AZGFD went digital all of the old paper records were destroyed. Without that prior infraction they couldn’t go for the permanent ban. They stated if further charges come up that would enable them to seek a permanent ban.

I didn’t get it either but who knows how long it was going on.

All, guide and outfitters should be hit with the permanent ban the first time. They know the rules and regulations for violation.

Man this thread is driving me nuts - started at page 1, completely missing the year it was posted. Reading about people getting charged and finding out what units they got, all while I haven't seen a hit on my account. Figure I didn't get drawn.

Then realize it's an older thread and get to the 2023 part yesterday. Remind myself to be patient and see what happens. Get a notification that my CC was hit by G&F at 12:05 this morning and get excited.
Later I get an email that my hunt/fish license renewed automatically. Still no word on the draw results, sigh.

I have a premium utah archery deer tag in my pocket and all I really care about right now is getting a november coues tag in a mid-tier unit that is usually pretty easy to draw. No hit so far and i'm really depressed about it.

What "mid tier" unit did you apply for?
