Well, day one of the season in the bag. Shooting light fading and getting ready for the hike back to camp. Got into the elk twice but only close enough to nock an arrow, not draw in them. Damn swirling winds. Elk have been very quiet. Don't you love the guys on the atv's that pay no attention to the road closed signs? And if that's not good enough, no road needed. Just go cross country. Can't believe some people believe that is an effective way to hunt.

Found this sign during an archery hunt in AZ a couple of years ago and what a surprise there were atv tracks going around it.0923150808.00 (1).jpg

That's the exact signs they're disregarding here. This mornings hunt was good though. Very close but haven't been able to let the carbon fly yet. Bulls are still really quite and bachelored up.

Pretty quiet today where I am too. They're bugling until 8am and are just letting out some bugles late right at dusk. No real crazy Rutting activity yet. Bulls are cowed up but just not real vocal yet. Soon...hopefully...

Bugling has pick up a little. Maybe when the crowds start heading back home this afternoon, they'll start to settle down and get to their business.

We've been getting into heavy action every morning. I haven't really had to throw out any locator bugles.
