My Sister drew an Arizona Bighorn sheep tag for unit 44B Anyone on here hunted it before? Any words of wisdom from past hunters? things we need to be aware of? Sounds like it is the premier tag to have

Did your sister draw the north or south of 44B? Both are good, but the best place to start is by going to AZ Game & Fish website and click on the "Where to Hunt" tab, then find the unit. There is a bunch of good info there.

That unit is a good unit with high numbers of trophy rams. The north half is the Plomosa mountains with several natural springs and easy access. The south part is the north end of the New Water mountains. A little more difficult access but not hard. A lot of rams hang around Black Mesa. The unit is very close to Quartzite, AZ and there are tons of snow birds (winter visitors), there all winter. They will be visible riding all over the place on their UTVs. I have flown sheep surveys in that unit but it was many, many years ago!

I haven't dug into it too deep yet as to the north or south. Not too worried about finding the where yet as there will be months of research ahead of us. If its the more remote part, we'll pack in but from what i heard its not as remote so maybe not needed. I hear there are some big rams come out of there. Its looking like we are going to have several family members coming so the pack wouldn't be too bad either way

i live in arizona been on handful sheep hunts i could help poke around if you have ideas. since it sounds like your are out of state?

Its not as remote, but water is nonexistent. I'd hunt from the truck, and stay mobile. Good luck, congrats on a great tag!

I appreciate the offer Swarosvki. Sis live in cave creek and plans on doing quite a bit of scouting so i think they have that covered.

Bigjay, sounds like if we do bring mules, we will need to haul water so may not be worth the hassle.

I always put in for there due to the tag numbers and “remote access” hopefully weeding out a few people. Would love to hear how the hunt went and if your sister was successful.

I hunted 44B north last year with a friend that had the tag. We never glassed more than 50 feet from a side by side. No real need to pack around. Not sure about the south side of the hunt though. Plenty of good rams to choose from. Better have max points or you probably wont' draw 44BN.

I don’t have much for points so just been putting in for the 44b west hunt. Figure once I get more points I’ll apply for other places.

I believe you are talking about the 46 units and not the 44 units. The 44's are much easier access and they are north and south units. 46's are really tough access and have an A and B and East and West choice.

Shoot yes sir you as correct. 46b west is what I usually put in for. Figure once I get more points I’ll put in elsewhere maybe

This is an old thread. I have been up all night figuring out where an old man could go have a good sheep hunt. Ram size is down but I think I am going to burn my points and go sheep hunting in 44 b north this year.
