Are You Getting Bad Blood Trails with the 6.5 Creedmoor? This Is Why

I really like my 6.5 Creedmoor and have killed a number of really nice deer and one big bear with it. I have used 143 gr Hornady eldx for all. All animals died ok. Poor blood trails on some. Only one exit wound. End results are good but I am no longer using these bullets. I will go with Federal fusion or plain old power shok...
I will say that I also use a 3006 and never have blood trail issues on deer with that. However, it's not as fun to shoot... Here's a nice deer taken with the '06...

With bonded 6.5cm the blood trails were poor and they ran a while. since switching to eldm 140 and 147 in 6.5 cm there is much better blood trails and they die a lot quicker often within 20/30yards. I am particularly found of the 147s

For you guys running TTSX, LRX or Hornady CX how are you finding them? Have only made CNS hits so far with the monos in 6.5 at short ranges, especially from this forum!

All thingns being equl, they laying blood on the ground?

Yes, because everyone that points how stupid clickbait is and how it is only hampering the publics knowledge of actual terminal ballistics is an easily offended 6.5 guy.

What happens “when you shoot an animal in the shoulder with an explosive small caliber bullet (143eldx and 142 ablr)”? Because the article didn’t describe it at all? Also, saying things such as “explosive” further obscures reality to people. They don’t explode, they upset and fragment. The difference mattes.

Can you please “define a lot of animals”? How many medium to big game- deer/antelope/bear/elk?

I’m sure it’s more than I, as I’m only at a couple hundred with various 6.5’s, and my best single day with a 300WM was high 60’s on deer; but please humor me- the data set matters.

I’ve killed more than a hundred medium to large game with both the 06 and 243 each. The 243 specifically still holds the second best record of instant drops of any combo I/we’ve tracked. Of course bullets matter, and change the bullet to most of the crap people shoot in smaller cartridges and there will be sketchy experiences.

Actually, a 140ge ELD-M would have sent fragments into both lungs on that hit- terminal fact. That Berger holding together caused a one lung shot situation, had it fragmented completely, it too would have damaged both lungs.
I love looking back at douche bag comments like this one. Didn’t answer or contribute to the conversation at all, just ‘I kill more animals than you’. This guy is a complete keyboard warrior and still lives in his mom’s basement. What a complete tool.

Seems like hes out in the real world and doing way more than most to me. People just don't handle bluntness/directness well.

Nothin but respect for a guy who always takes time to answer questions, share info etc. Just don't let replies you don't like hit your feels.

Gotta say man, explaining where and why he is incorrect would be worth immensely more than just calling him names. That goes for anyone in any disagreement.

You’re calling me out for the exact reason I’m calling him out. He is just sh*tting on people so I figured I’d point out how miserable and low that makes a man. So I agree with you 100%.

Nope not at all. He addressed several factual points, such as that bullets don't actually explode, asked about the wounding characteristics of certain bullets, went on to explain his results with those bullets etc etc

You didn't do any of that. Your response was just a bunch of insults. Basically a trantrum.

That's what I'm calling you out for.

Help me out here.

You've been a member here for almost two years and have only made a dozen posts or so, yet today you're dragging up a long-dead thread to call a guy out for something he said almost four years ago.

Why?

I get that the internet is forever, but what exactly are you looking to accomplish with that?

I get short blood trails.

Same. I mean, its pretty hard to tell the difference between an exit from a 308 cal bullet and an exit from a .264 cal bullet. And when the .264 doesn't exit? It does damage. The 120gr Ballistic Tip from a 6.5x55 was producing kills as quick if not quicker than anything for me.

On the other hand, last year shot one deer and one moose with a 270 Win. Chest/shoulder shots. Fed blue box 130gr. Blood was about the same. I guess 270 Win is a terrible performer now? Poor blood trails?

Hitting em lower on the body and making holes that don't get covered up by fur seems to be the best bet for leaving blood on the ground imo. Not caliber/cartridge dependent so much. And if a bullet that doesn't exit ends up passing through the vitals? Probably not tracking far.

Ain't killed near as many animals as some here but those are the observations so far, from 223, 30-06, 308, 270, 45/70, 7x57, 6.5x55, 6.5 CM, 9.3x62, 300 WM.

This stuff has to just make ya laugh. The comedy it provides is gold.

I'm pretty sure Forms has more knowledge in his pinky than you will ever have

Listen, you’re not wrong. I guess I found his post useless and condescending just to sound smarter and act like he kills more animals than the other guy. To me, it was elementary and lacked substance. And the “explode” comment is hysterical. That’s like correcting clip with mag, we all know what he means and no “the difference DOESNT matter”. No one on here thinks he is shooting some sort of incendiary round. Loudest mouth in the room normally knows the least.

I appreciate your response. Not sure why I felt the need to waste my time with that guys comment from 4 years ago. I’m no better for bringing myself to you all’s level. I never post on these forums for that exact reason unless I can actually help, such as load development, which to me, can be very productive (unlike this post and certainly my contribution to it). I’m just glad people are getting outdoors and getting into the sport.

Happy hunting.

You’re 100% right. Not sure why I responded.

Happy hunting.
