There's more to a blade's performance than the steel composition. I'd take well heat-treated 440C over soft M390 or S90V.
I've enjoyed using the DMT Dia-Sharp Credit Card stones the past few years. I only take the 600 grit into the field for quick touch ups. The WorkSharp Guided Field Sharpener is also extremely popular, and they also have a new folding version.
Diamonds cut faster than anything else, will sharpen any steel type, and because the most common diamond sharpeners are the electroplated type you can often get them in a smaller/lighter package than any other type of natural or synthetic stone.
I own several Benchmade and Lionsteel knives and tend to like the Lionsteel knives better and they really hold an edge. BUT, the Mora’s are not bad for the money and very functional.
Not to hijack the thread but what do you guys use to touch up your knives in the field?
