Are nock sets necessary?

Recently re-timed the VXR. Cut off my old nock sets and just moved my loop. Bare shafts shooting perfectly right now. I'm wondering if I need to retie new nock sets? Or if I can just leave it as is?

I like nock sets. If i need to or want to replace my d-loop the arrow is set. I can shorten or lenthen my d-loop after my bow is tuned and everything set without having to twist or untwist strings to modify tuning. I have been known to cut my d-loop off and shorten or lengthen .2" which is 3/16" I do this with a set of calipers that I use on my guns. I did this when I switched releases from a wise guy to a xtinction 2 to get the bow back to holding where I wanted it.

I’ve worked on a few different bows set up all kinds of ways. Typically the reason a lot of them come out of tune is that someone installed a d loop without nock sets and went nutty with the tension on the d loop to keep the nock point secure. That causes separation on the serving and a now moveable nock point.

How should I finish the knot? I tried a square not followed with a double knot to bring the ends together for burning.

I use .016 3d serving. It ideally should be the same size as your center serving or larger so it doesnt cut in. My center serving is .018 power grip so Im a bit undersized. I havent changed it out yet.

I tied my in like dudley.

I like to use unwaxed dental floss if I dont have the right serving diameter handy. A lot cheaper, easier to fool with and works perfect.

I ended up re-tying with this method thanks man. BTW Gas precut D loops are awesome.
