As someone who lives in the Panhandle, I have heavily considered not hunting elk here anymore and spending my time elsewhere. but I will still hunt here because its close and I know the area. Every year seems to get worse with both people and wolves. Last season was the worst I have ever seen. I was running into people in spots that I have never seen anybody before, and forget about hunting on the weekends lol! All that said, there are elk, they are just a lot quieter and tougher to find.

I just stay the course hunting in my normal spots. Yes last year there seemed to be more people , but I just bounce alitle left orright and find elk. I do find that when the others don't find the easy elk they move to a different spot. Next year they probably won't be hunting there .

Thanks for all the input guys! I grew up in the panhandle... moved away... now I’m moving back! Hoping to find something kind of close to home so I don’t have to drive 3-5hrs to be surrounded in other hunters! I’d rather be surrounded in hunters 1hr from my house

I think you'll see fewer hunters this year because a lot of vacation time is being burned up by these shut downs. Gonna throw a wrench into a lot of plans I'm thinking.

Panhandle is very tough but all I know thanfully there are a few good bulls still around I grew very selective due to success with numbers down been a little more difficult in my mind eating tags when little guys could have been 78613AB0-06EA-4EF6-917F-B30B646518B0.jpeg137BE55D-AF9C-4EDF-B8C9-D1ED3B9614FA.jpeg78871228-3273-46B3-AF74-708B8F583593.jpeg57239C7F-84AA-4F55-8EEF-E60F7CD7D2C2.jpeg03CD737E-68C1-4928-86D1-989BD6EC0268.jpeg645B24BE-307F-49BE-A720-C6D78C46A6DA.jpegtied to a meatpole...oh well never a bad day hiking mountains👍

Last year we had some snow when rifle started. behind every set of elk tracks we found in the snow there were dog tracks.

I will say that after all the hiking we did and the sign we found archery was probably a better option than rifle
