Any suggestions on how to go about a cow hunt the middle to weeks of September? My wife and I have elk hunted several times but never strictly for a cow. I didn’t draw a bull tag so I pick up a cow tag.

Cold Calling Sequence would be # 1 for myself! first hour & a half near feeding areas & anytime after 10 am till dark be within earshot of bedding areas & you will have action! Also setup is very important, make sure you pick a nice tight area where elk must come into bowrange before they can see source of your calling, your wife & you not need be more than 30 yards apart.

Practice your duo calling at home & work out any kinks in the armor so you are both on the same page for your routine, don't hit the woods without being dialed in. If help is needed get our ElkNut APP, there's a video clip on it showing what a good setup looks like & the calling sequence is demonstrated there in the video!

I would listen for those bugles. I'd bet there was a cow or 2 around him

Calling sequences using lost calf and mews. Use a couple different calls, make it sound like a party.
Cows can’t resist it.
They’ll come running in.

Be ready

Killed my cow opening evening last year doing just that
