I bought a Remington ar15 223. I would like sum advise on reloading for this ar. Now this is a 223 not 556. So can I use 556 brass to reload? I was thinking of bye in rcbs small base 223 reloading dies for this round. What Ur thoughts on these dies? Whats a good powder to get started. I have imr4064,imr4895,imr3031 and varget....

My windam eats up military brass. Varget is hard to beat. Refer to burn rate chart and go up or down five or even ten powders and have fun. Prefer redding dies, just a personal thing. You will have to resize to some extent, just enough dont over do it. Have shot everything from 40'to 75 grains with no issues, your games you play will determine bullet choice. One thing , load a bunch cause they are fun to shoot. Can help with brass supply if needed, like top brass for one usually has good supply and deals.

The brass is the same. The 5.56 has a "Weatherby" chamber, by that I mean a longer throat, this allows the round to be loaded to higher pressure, like M855 "green-tip". I would not buy small base dies. Dillon's 5.56 dies work great for me. 4895 and Varget work great. H322 is a good powder for 55gr ( also works for heavier bullets but is slow), and RL15 is a good powder for heavier bullets. AR Comp and CFE223 get good reviews but I've not used them.

I used to run Varget exclusively in my 223's and 308. Since it's become "the powder of the gods" and is impossible to find near me, I've switched to RL-15. The RL-15 seemed more finicky to dial in a load but it's proving to be "slightly" more accurate in my 308 and should work just as well in the 223's when I get around to it.

I have Varget. I don't want to use it in the 223. Since it is so hard to come bye. My wifes 7mm-08 likes it a lot. So I will save it for that.... I will try sum imr 4895.. Here is a group we both shot. With factory fed 69 smk.
