Yes, mostly with 62gr TTSX’s. Have mostly done neck shots and they’ve all dropped within sight. They’re fun but I definitely prefer bolt guns now. Seems more efficient overall, and AR’s are louder with a silencer.

How are bolts more efficient?

Power to size/weight ratio and silencer efficiency. I admit the first is subjective. I like ARs and hunting with them, but lately I like deer hunting with my CZ 527 more, same cartridge.

Nope. Gun was pretty clean. Over 300 rounds down the pipe and over 30 of that brand. It was Buffalo bore Barnes ttsx (300 or 325 or 350 grainers). I have the rest of the box that the light primers came out of as well as 2/3 light strike rounds. Lost one to the river.

I was waiting for my new optic to arrive and a weekend that is free. I’m only getting 6 hours of daylight right now, so need a little bit of free time.

And now that my snowmachine arrived, I have winter transportation to get to the range.

Based off the cleaning and the condition of the gun when I took it apart, I’m thinking it was a ammo issue.

It wasn’t that cold. And the gun was clean.

What is the trigger?

DB-15 with a larue stealth upper
Timney Gold
Harvester Evo
Razor 2-10x42 lh
77 TMK

This gun shots them at 1.2 moa for 30 rounds. Does the trick for me.

7mm-08 ~8.5lbs with 2-10x42 Nikon Monarch 5 ED scope; 2A Xanthos and 18” Wilson Combat barrel

Son took his first cow elk at 120yards with it at 10 years old. Shooting 150gr eld-x. Great for the adjustable LOP

I just saw the hole in the horn. That’s awesome. Wonder what causes that

Probably did it in velvet the year before or very early in growth this year. Not sure how… he didn’t have it 2 years ago.

I have a half dozen or so chambered in .22, 556, 6.8, 7.62x39, 7.62x51. Pigs, yotes, a few deer. I only hunt with them when there is a chance to encounter multiply targets at one time...they are bulky, heavy, dirty with a can, just not my favorite rifle to carry but they do have there place and can be very useful. All of them but .22 have SSA triggers.

My boys wear my 15-22s out every chance they get, last time we were out I think they went thru a entire brick...shooting 22 supressed is a lot of fun.

Likely part of the issue. Cassette style triggers, and especially single stage ones have issues, including light strikes. A Larue MBT two stage, or Geissele SSA are both much more reliable triggers.
I’ve considered it. And after this next range trip, I’ll decide what to do. I have a larue sitting in the drawer waiting to go into a lower.

I’ve yet to have an issue with any of the drop ins I’ve used yet. But doesn’t mean it isn’t the cause.

I do know Buffalo bore has its issues as well. But three in a row…? Damn it was frustrating.

Could be the primers are just a bit on the hard side, or seated just a touch off, etc to where the lessened hammer force of that trigger was enough to cause issues.

I like this thread!

Hogs, deer and coyote hunting usually results in an AR selected. Typically 6.5 Grendel, although I’m taking 5.56 TMK this next hog hunt just to see how it performs. Have probably shot ~50 hogs with 123gr SST from short grendel barrels and have been very pleased with the performance, but suppressors and Grendel magazines don’t mix well. It doesn’t take much carbon to seize the followers, usually resulting in a type III malfunction, which is really a hassle especially during high volume shooting hunts.

This one has been getting the love lately:
14.5” Pinned 6.5 Grendel
VXR 2-7 in ADM QD mount
Hogster R 2-8 Thermal
YHM Resonator
6.7 lbs plus optic and suppressor

This trip:
11.5” 5.56 SBR
Sparc II (Maybe)
Hogster R 2-8 Thermal
YHM Resonator
Right under 6lbs plus optic and can.
