I'm about 6 hours out from my wife picking up her dream dog. . . A Newfoundland puppy.(She's always had a love of Dogs large enough to eat people). She is much more excited about the dog being 150lb giant than she is for the cute puppy, so at least she is prepared for the size.

So I'm wondering if any Sliders own a Newfie and want to send advice my way. We are a dog family an have a German shorthair currently that is "my" dog. I have the time and patience for obedience training and have dealt with a hard headed escape artist of a short hair for 6 years so I'm not to worried about the training side. Just seeing what's out there for advice!

Thanks

I’ve got one and he’s the best dog I’ve ever owned there as loyal a dog as you will ever find. They love the water and they take a bit of maintenance keeping their coat up if you let them go in the water a lot. I’ve got a two year old son and he climbs all over Oscar (the Newfie) and pulls his ears and what not and it doesn’t bother him a bit I don’t think they have a mean bone in their body when it comes to family of people they know but he is very protective over my wife and kid when I’m not home and I really like that about him you’ll love em there awesome dogs!

Fabulous family dogs, calm, loyal, eager to please. If you decide to swim w your newfie, it will try to rescue you. Those powerful paws can scratch you up in the water. The dog will instinctively keep after you, not understanding he is scratching you.

That is very good to know! Thanks, we are excited to add her to the family
