As the title says....anyone know? I have a SLIK Compact II, which has a lousy panhead. Wanted to see if I could put the one from my SS-P on it.

I pulled the ball head off the SS when I had it. Seems like I took the cap off the bottom and used a 3/8" extension with a bit driver on it. I think its an allen head bolt that it attaches with.

I took the ball heads of of my SS tripod and my Summit window mount. The window mount was easy but the tripod had some thread lock on it.

Also with the tripod it has a 1/4-20 screw on the mount and a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter in the ball head itself I couldn't get out so I bought an adapter to put the vanguard head on.

What I ended up doing was using a 6" pipe wrench around the flange on the head with a cloth wrapped around to prevent scratching and rubber strap wrench on the tripod centre column above the split point right under the flange.

It didn't take a lot of force to pull it apart. On the SS-P it should be the same process. Just get a pipe wrench or strap wrench above and under the flange where the mounting bolt for the head should be.

If you look on the top of the post you will see a plastic notched lock nut, just turn it anti clockwise to screw off and the whole head will lift off the post.

AndyB........I saw that thing, but never thought to turn it!?!? I feel like a dipsh*t.

Thanks! I will try this tonight. Man........I started to try and pry that off with a screwdriver, prior to this thread, and thought "I better not do that"......Good thing I didn't!
