This was something inspired by the CBC, but its a little different, something for those who still want to shoot all the time.

Start at 20 yards 6" target if only elk hunting maybe 9", easy right?

Back up 5 yards a day. First shot of the day, with a broadhead. Doesn't matter what you do shooting wise the rest of the day, but the next day, or next time you shoot, back up 5 yards, shoot a broadhead. Idea is to get a lot more shots in, and you will find where you start to fall apart. Likely be humbled a distance closer than you expect.

Once you miss, that's your distance.


Its no competition, not something you need to post about, but once you have shot 50 yards, thats 7 shots, 65 yards will be 10 arrows. You would be surprised how humbling it can be to put 10 good shots together, as a cold shot.


The prizes are knowing that much more of what you are capable of, confidence in your shot in hunting scenarios.
 
This is essentially what I do every year about now. Cold shot broadhead at my max hunting distance. That determines it.

I think really spicing it up would be to get the heart rate really going then shoot cold at max distance. Then hold like a real shot throwing you out of your process and have to get back into it.

Or sometimes I shoot in the morning freshly caffeineted. That is tough on the brain 🧠
 
"Normally" throughout the summer I'll shoot a single fixed BH for my first shot of the day, and it's always from 40, 50, or 60. I rarely shoot less than 40. But I always use a 3-4" bullseye on my BH targets. This time of year is when I normally start my "draw and hold" shooting with BH's.

Our modest 3D course here at the shop is on a 1-1 grade. Pushing 70 y.o here,no meds,Bradycardia,and 16% body fat.

To anyone wanting a rush,do hill sprints up this bitch... I can do two... and then shoot,one arrow. Another is that farmers walk with dumbell exersize. Walk 25 yds to target and back with a cpl 25#, now pick up your favorite handgun and take one shot,bwahaha.

My 1st arrow this a.m. @18 yds 3" low of a 1" target dot. A handle Bear TD.
