Anyone in NorCal doing Elk in Cali?

I have the maximum points in CA and don't anticipate drawing that tag. I have drawn tags in NM and Wyoming which are very difficult for Non Residents to draw but a California Tule tag even for a resident is makes those tags look easy......

I know more than one person that has drawn more than one elk tag in California.

Relatively speaking, this will be a good year to get drawn for an elk tag. CDFW has added a number of tags, especially in and around Owen’s Valley. I believe they’ve also added quite a few Grizzly Island tags. I’m told populations are above management objectives and they’re trying to reduce population as well as take some ‘management’ bulls.

For those that are interested, off of I5 at the San Luis Wildlife Refuge, there is a really nice visitor center with the tule mounts shown here. It is a good stop with the family. They have a breeding pen that you can drive around, once the pen is at capacity, they move the elk onto hunt areas throughout the state. San Luis reservoir is across I5, from the refuge.
