I've been reading this forum for a few years and I finally decided to create an account.

Not to steal the op, but I have picked up a muzzy tag for this unit. I have a couple spots checked out I want to try in the Wilnderness area. This will be my first hunt in Colorado (Arizonan, not Texan😉), I've talked to an outfitter to touch base about the area, but from you guys that have hunted it before, should I focus more on altitude or thicker timber for September? I'm willing to share info on the Arizona hunts for those that might want to trade information. TIA.

Everyone likes to hunt the wilderness, not realizing how long it takes to get to areas you can actually hunt.

Thanks, I'm kind of banking on that theory. The spots I'm looking at are about 8 miles in to spike. I work in a mountainous region in AZ and am familiar with my capabilities. I guess I'm still deciding to figure out my entry points, whether to start high then work lower or vice versa.
How is the fishing?

I’ll be in the there during at least part of muzzy. If you need a hand with a pack out and I can get there, I don’t mind putting in the work. I’m as ready as I’m getting. >3 weeks.

PM me your number and I'll be more than willing to help you pack out if you need it as well.

Killed my 1st bull in 751. Fishing is good, there's elk there but numbers aren't great, they seem to be always on the move too. Plan on covering lots of ground, but believe me, the hills are tall! I've found in elk there from 10k feet all the way up to 13k. Beautiful country for sure!

Plan to hike steep terrain and cover lots of ground. It’s been another dry year, and the elk are moving through areas quickly and not hanging up in likely places. The wilderness area has been highly pressured with hikers and campers this year. So expect to get well off major trails to find animals.

On my end it was my first hunt in Colorado. I hiked in about 5 miles, set up camp and hunted that general area. The snow that came had all the elk dropping to almost 8000'. I stayed up around 10,000' and only saw mule deer. By the time I located the elk, I didn't have enough time or food to go get them and haul one out. I would do it again. Met several good guys in the wilderness. But doubt I'll make it back this season.

I drew a bull tag for units 75/751. My partner decided to not go this year. Any interest in joining up?
