Anyone hunted with Derek Blake in AK?

Hello all,

I am trying to put together a Kodiak blacktail hunt for 2024. Came across Derek Blake and his operation. He seems relatively new to doing these hunts but just figured Id ask if anyone on here has done a hunt with him? If so, what were your thoughts? Thanks

I wouldn’t hesitate. He’s been doing it a few years now with his own boat but I knows he’s been operating with/under other guides for plenty of time. He always turns out solid results from the pictures I’ve seen and he’s a commercial fisherman that is clearly passionate about his boat. The few times I’ve walked past it in the Kodiak harbor it’s pretty darn immaculate.

I haven't hunted with him but have conducted commercial fishing business with him. Like Logan, I wouldn't hesitate. He keeps his equipment in top shape and is very capable, professional and personable.

Things got pushed back a little bit. I am now pursing blacktail in 2025 hopefully. Struggling to get return calls from outfitters right now. I may end up trying to get a hunt lined up with Blake.

This is an older post but with recent activity so thought i would chime in. Myself and 3 others hunted with Derek Thanksgiving week of 2022. I would recommend his services to anyone interested, and hopefully I will get to go back and hunt with him in the future when my daughter is old enough. The boat was great, meals were excellent, we were on deer everyday of the hunt. Some of that is dependent on how hard you are willing to hunt, the short November days don't leave much room for error while you're in the field. I've only been to Kodiak that one trip but I think if you are looking for a strictly blacktail only hunt and willing to get after in hard on all hunt days you won't be disappointed in the quality of deer you can turn up.
