So... decided to try some daylight shotgun coyote hunting. My only other shotgun is a 26" beretta 390 12 ga and I wanted shorter, and optic capable.

lgs had 200 scatterguns, but none exactly fit the bill, but this cz 1012 g2 was close and called my name. Shop didn't know of optics that would fit, so I decided to figure that out myself, and bought it.

got it home, looked at a rimfire rifle set up id made, thought that the scope might fit... turns out the 13mm weaver in the top of the receiver fits a rimfire weaver scope ring, now I have a Redfield 3x9x40 on my shotgun... probably not the idea scope, but it will help in patterning, gonna hunt with it and see if I like it.

I wouldn't want that on my shotgun for close quarters predators. I think that's the hole point. Being able to shoot something super close that runs up on you.

When I coyote hunt solo, I generally bring bring a shotgun and a rifle.

I have hunted coyote, and killed quite a few, with a shotgun. Never wanted any type of sight beside just the front bead. Typically shot gunning coyote, for me at least, is reserved for tight cover. When they're gonna be in your lap when you finally see them and mostly running shots. I prefer just a simple vented rib barrel and a mod choke with number 4 buck or even something like BB.

No way would I ever put a scope on a shotgun. Been shooting coyotes all my life with buckshot.

I've killed them out to 60 or so yards with Number 4 buck or dead coyote ammo. Benelli M1 super 90 12 ga Tactical 18.5 inch barrel. It happens very fast at close range. red dots work well, but regular scopes are a handicap. Good luck.

I've killed two coyotes while upland hunting. 30 and 40 yards. #5 shot absolutely smoked them, I was pretty surprised actually. Although, I did aim for the face......something like #4 buck would be money.

I have Remington SP 10ga.
Remington 870 12 ga 3 1/2 in
New Mossberg sa 20ga planning on loading some TSS 3 inch #4 shot for coyotes.

A buddy and I averaged 50% of our kills with a shotgun over a span of several years. The long discontinued Remington tungsten T shot 3 1/2 loads were phenomenal. We had kills out to 80 yards with pellets still breaking bones at that distance. Maybe a TSS equivalent would be similar.
Once that ran out we switched to cheap, generic #4 buckshot and that is limited to about 50 yards due to patterning. Really effective inside that range though.
I use a Turkey SXF choke (can't remember which brand) in a Winchester SX3. Always wanted to put a red dot on it, but ended up sticking to the bead.

Yep, killed more than a few in old Mexico. I'd walk 100 yards and make a few squeaks and 30 seconds dead yote, walk another 100 yards and do it again. They were incredibly eager to get shot down there and several I shot directly in the face less than 10 yards from me on a dead run towards me. Bead for me all the way!
