Anyone having just terrible shipping experiences this Holiday season?

I shipped a package from NW Montana earlier this week to Florida using USPS. It was supposed to be delivered this Monday, two days from now. However it was delivered this past Thursday - several days early.

Amazon just built a delivery hub here and the Amazon drivers are leaving the packages at the end of the driveway in the snow. Friends have also complained that they've left them by the mailbox by the highway.

Amazon IS the problem and its only going to get worse the more they take away from UPS and USPS. Once they put UPS out of business and USPS further into heavier losses until the govt shuts it down, and they have everything the prices will skyrocket, and the delivery will get worse. Oh, and you will like it because there won't be any alternatives.

! Item Via eBay took 12 days from Florida to Michigan and tracking was hit and miss (USPS)
Another was to arrive on Friday but Amazon advised due to weather will be Late via Georgia to Michigan.
Also Odd normally anything Via Amazon 90% of the time was delivered via Amazon But the last 3 packages all came USPS big or small with a few different items. ( Just odd and seems USPS this year is always Delayed) Another from Hodgdon was to arrive on Friday check Tracking (USPS) and It is stuck in Pontiac MI for the last 3 days and shows "Priority Mail" So it won't arvive today so "maybe" monday or so I can Hope!
And it is not even the Last Day for Carriers Xmas Shipping to get something on time? As for USPS Scanning maybe it is done by a machine and not a person so things aren't scanned and just show up when they do show up?

I work in e-commerce. We have a lot of lost packages and delayed deliveries with carriers. Mainly USPS.
We’ve also seen a lot of misdeliveries and packages left in random places ever since Amazon started contracting out deliveries

This is what I was afraid of, lol.
What % of packages you think are lost/not delivered? 1 in 50? 100? 1000?. And what do you do for the customer when something is lost in transit ? Refund or reship items?

Fedex has been complete garbage. I have a had several packages that go out for delivery, and they put delayed to due to weather. And they do this for over a week. It has been blue skies for the last 2 weeks.

I’m avoiding sending things out this time of year. Going to have a bolt fluted and coated, but that’s not happening until Jan. Not going to risk it being lost in transit.

I haven’t had the greatest luck with my orders though. Waited about 3 months for a barrel and when it showed up, it was the wrong chambering. Correct barrel should be in hand next week.

Ordered 5k small rifles primers. Wife signs for them while I’m hunting. Come home to find 5k pistol primers instead.

QC is out the window it seems.

Today I drove an hour and paid an extra $25 to buy my wife a new golf driver for Christmas instead of ordering it online… I literally didn’t want to have to deal with having it shipped given the issues I’m having with my current packages.

guys you are so lucky ... we are dealing with the 2nd postal strikes in a year and the ups, amazon, dhl or fedex of the world are using 3rd party distributor and it is a nighmare ... luckily we can buy sometimes locally ...

Shipping has been bad for last few years around me…ever since Covid. They are swamped right now and there are a lot of temporary help hired for the holidays with little to no experience. Is what it is…it will get there eventually. I have only had one thing lost and it was refunded so no big deal. Life goes on.

A couple packages have shown on tracking to leave facilty A, scan at facility B, then scan again at facility A. I dont sweat it as at least they are still being scanned. I live on a gravel road with my maibox at the road and a 900 ft, straight as an arrow, driveway I keep clear. There is a large chest by my garage marked for packages that usps and ups regularly drop at. Lately I have been getting large packages left in the snow below my mailbox. The snowplow hasnt wiped any away, but has covered them in slush. I think it's the army of Hyundai and Kias that I see delivering packages this time of year that should not be outside of the suburbs doing doordash like they usually are. Packages by professionals are still being delivered as they should be.

With USPS it’s probably about 1 in every 30 or 40.

It depends. If it’s a low cost ($10-20) item we just send another one. If it’s a higher cost item ($200+) we file an insurance claim. The hassle to file a claim on a low cost item just isn’t worth it and you never get what it’s worth.

If you work through 3rd party vendors (eBay, Amazon, Etsy, Etc.) you're pretty limited in what you can do, and getting them involved is almost always a mistake

Daughter is studying a foreign language, and my wife ordered something cultural from overseas as a fitting gift.

While not a pricey item, she figured the tariff aspect would require an additional 15% payment based on what info we could find. Turns out that they also tariff part of the shipping, which was disproportionate since the item was not very expensive.

In the end our government wants almost as much as the item cost before they will clear it for delivery. So very happy to pay more so the country can be deeper in debt.

I made several orders over the past Black Friday sales… for those of you that also ordered stuff, how has your shipping experiences been? Not necessarily from the seller/retailer, but from the carrier (USPS, UPS, FedEx)…..
I’m having terrible luck so far. I think one of my bigger orders that was shipped via USPS is for sure lost/stolen… last scan was Nov 25th near the origin point and other than the fake ‘in transit’ updates (which stopped on Nov 29th), there has been nothing.
Also have a package coming via FedEx that was supposed to be here today, but that one seemed to stop updating three days ago with the last ‘scan’ in Kansas. I’ve had two UPS shipments that have been totally fine and delivered on time. I’ve got another smaller order from a more boutique retailer that was shipped via USPS and was ‘accepted’ at their local post office 2 days ago, but no origin scans or anything so obviously no expected delivery dates for that has been given…

I know the carriers are swamped, but it sucks when you order high value stuff for yourself and Xmas presents for other people, and you’re sitting there hoping it actually gets delivered….
At work We have had a ton of problems this entire year with fed ex and ups. We have filed more claims for overnight packages
Not being delivered for a week or flat out lost packages this year than in the previous 10
Years combined.
