There are quite a few options and many people from Alaska on the forum. However, you might help everyone out with a little more info on what exactly you think you are looking for and what a good budget range might be. Also, how much time can you commit to the hunt and is it moose only? How many people are going and will everyone be looking for moose? Have you thought about teaming the hunt up with a combo for another animal like caribou that a non-res can hunt without a guide?

There will be two of us. just after moose, budget wise would be around 6,500 per person. Would like to do a fly in river float trip. Any areas to look at or any other info would be great.

That is a great budget to start for a moose hunt! As per our PM I think Larry B would be a great resource for sure! Also contacting area bios could give you a good bit of help as well....are you planning on bringing your owns rafts and what not? If not Larry can help you in the regard as well.

I'm an Alaskan and I have used Larry's services in the past. IMO, you cannot do any better than Larbo when it comes to doing a float hunt. I highly recommend his float hunt book and videos as well. I'd also recommend you get the Love, Thunder and Bull videos, you will learn a ton from the book and videos and increase your odds of bagging a nice bull moose.

Jordan, a couple of things to consider for your group:

1. Your budget is realistic for an unguided moose hunt. Expect your "overage" budget to reach out another $1500 for stuff like commercial air travel and shipping gear and meat back home. If your total budget is $6500, that means your bush logistics and raft rentals fall into the range of $5000 per person. But, if you are working with a budget of $6500 each plus "overages", then you're in better shape to do it right.

2. That said, I would contact Wade Renfro (Renfro's Alaskan Adventures) out of Bethel, AK to get dropped off onto one of his better DIY moose hunt areas. he has smaller planes than Papa Bear and can get you into more secluded spots for a float trip. I believe his flat rate quotes are in the neighborhood of $5500 per person for air and raft rentals combined. His success rates for two guys and moose are really good. he hunts out of GMU 18 and I believe lower GMU 21/22. Give him a call to pick his brain about areas, but you won't be disappointed. 907-545-4135

Good luck, man. IMO, doing right the first time will save you some painfully expensive regrets.
