You'd never get a shot on anything if your draw took that long. Not having it in my hand ready to go is an issue as it is. But you can't drive a snowmachine with a pistol in your hand so...

I had my Mark IV 22/45 with a Mask and red dot, shooting Federal subsonic ammo, carried in a Cole-Tac Varmint Wrangler holster on me many days this November and December. Lots of varmints were indeed wrangled along with some squirrels for the pot.

Correct! He was on the ground hard quartering away. Luckily, shot was only about 15 yds and snapped spine. He made it roughly 10 yds before my boy and I made it over to him to make sure he made it into the bag!

I did something similar to one the other day. I shoot them on my property because they chew stuff up like wires and crap.

It was in a branch and I hit him too far back, I could see his legs flopping around as he dragged himself across a branch. Luckily I made a clean shot just a few seconds later. It really made be feel bad and reminded me to slow down and make good shots.

Indeed! Same thing that happened to me, had his fronts but not his backs.

Looks like I'll be getting a Ruger 22/45 with Picatinny mount and bull barrel. I'd like to mount a Holosun 407c on it.
Any strong feelings about mounting on the rail with an adapter vs. removing the rail and using a base? The Maddmax base looks pretty good. But unless there's a real functional advantage, I'd rather not remove the sights and rail and probably lose them.

If you remove sights and rail, do you need filler screws?

I have a 507c mounted on the Ruger rail on my 22/45 (see my January 6th post above with my pistol and a couple of squirrels).

Love it, and that setup fits perfectly in my Cole-Tac Varmint Wrangler and Blackpoint Tactical Bandolero kydex holsters, so I haven't bothered to try anything else. I can post more pics if that'd be of any help, let me know.
