It has nothing to do with skill 99% of the time.

If you look at the records books, it is super rare for most species to not be guided. Whitetails, mule deer and pronghorn not withstanding.
Guided or not, if you are hunting where trophy caliber animals live, and the next guy is hunting where the species lives, but the trophy caliber animals simply aren't there, then you didn't do anything better

I've been going since 2017 and the amount it has grown since then is astonishing. I started going to "up" the odds of winning a <1 Club hunt and in 2020, I did. I think there are so many things to do, that it is almost impossible to cover everything in such a short time. Check out the website and look at the list of exhibitors and events and put together a game plan. There should also be an app coming out soon, if it already isn't. It has helped a lot the past few years. You'll have a great time.

Went last year, hung out with the Outdoorsmans / western hunter guys. Lots of fun. I already have too much other travel planned so I won't be there this year.

Was pretty funny to be at dinner and realize Remi Warren was at the table. I recognized his voice from the podcast lol.

Went last year for the first time. Had a lot of fun.

Unfortunately falls on the last weekend of deer season for us in south Texas so can’t make it this year.

Good time at the show! Never had the arrogant outfitter issue when talking hunts in Northern Canada but have only booked a Dall hunt there back in 2017. Was great to talk with most of the NWT outfitter’s and make my decision.

Busy place on the weekend so I avoid Saturday if possible. Enjoy the show!

Might show up myself if the timing is right to head back to BC from AZ Coues deer hunting. Reno isn’t far out of the way on the trip home.

I really wanted to go but was talking with a NWT outfitter I had a quote from for about a third of what it is today, so I just booked it. I got cold feet in 21 or 22 because it seemed like a lot of money, now it really is and I would have been ahead if I financed it at 10%.

I m going to the Sheep Show in Reno for my first time next month.. Anyone else going? Any tips or anything that will be a must see or attend? already got tickets to the less than 1 beer night.
10th year out of 11 for me. Always a good time. Do you have your<1 membership too? Just the beer social doesn’t get you in the drawings. Go around to the chapters booths to get raffle tickets. That’s where the best odds to win sheep hunts are. Lots of good seminars. The after banquet events are fun like thr backpack races and horse packing competition. Just have fun. There is lots of money there and lots of common guys too(common guys outnumber the wealthy) and most outfitters treat everyone very well. Great place to check out new gear and try stuff on. It’s the best show around.

I have been several times over the years and enjoyed it but finally began to feel like I was in the movie “Groundhog Day”.

Can’t help but notice there are “haves” and “have-nots” but never let that bother me.

Probably the best thing to come out of attending was striking up a conversation with Jack O’Connor’s young friend Buck Buckner and then visiting with him year after year. Really nice man who has given much to conservation.
