Had everything at USAA until 5 years ago. Bad customer service and bad rates for insurance/loans etc. I moved all accounts from then when that happened. If they give you the best rate go for it. I have no reason to go back.

Still have em for banking and insurance. They are still the lowest rate for insurance for me and my wife. I've bought 3 cars/an RV with them and each time they seem to get the job done. I'd prefer a bank with a local branch, but until I'm retired I won't make the switch as I'm sure as heck not going to any of the other national banks that have branches everywhere. That's the only reason I'd switch at this point.

Was a bit of a bummer they got rid of the investment side... the USAA app was way easier to use than the Charles Schwab... but im slowly learning it and making it work.

I found that Geico was the biggest saving with the exact coverage we had. (they have the ability to pull your coverages from any company and mirror the quote)
As far as our home policy, they partner with Liberty Mutual and we get a multi policy discount

I use USAA for insurance and some banking. Have had nothing but good experiences. Geico sucks if you get hit by one of their drivers, I eventually just filed a claim with USAA and told Geico I would not talk to them anymore and to deal with USAA.

I've been hit by two State Farm drivers, and State Farm took good care of me. Been hit by a Progressive driver as well, Progressive was not bad to deal with, but State Farm was better.

I try not to be an ass hole to people I deal with, and I don't want to be represented by ass holes (Geico) and am willing to pay extra to avoid them.

If I was to have the experience that some people on this thread have had, I would shop around.

At one time USAA Products and Services were stellar in every way. But it is really sad to see what the’ve become. In recent years I’ve gotten much better products and services from other Uniformed Service Support Companies and Organizations.

Unfortunately, COVID has provided cover for some very poor customer service across the board from many a well-known company.

State Farm rates have been beating USAA for a while now. I know many others that made the swap and were just as surprised as I was. I know nothing of Geico but State Farm has done me right for the last 9 years with several home and auto claims (hurricanes and wife's driving ). They don't under pay on claims.

I used to work in a body shop and USAA is by far the most customer service friendly auto insurance company out there. They typically bend over backward for their customers, and make sure they are happy at the end of repairs.

Saving 15% is not always the best plan. When getting quotes from insurance companies be sure you are comparing your current policy with the quoting companies. Make sure the policy limits are same or greater that what you currently have. The cost to repair vehicles or personal injury claims some times exceed policy limits and then the individual is responsible for the additional cost. Be careful when shopping based on price alone.

I work for an insurance company now (10+ years), and it is very eye opening to see the claims that come through.

That’s a good perspective... I’ve had awesome customer service with them since the 90s but then had a strange experience last year where they nickel and dimed my ass on a claim (my mistake) while camping with the kids. A scratch on the bumper and another on the fender, two claims? It cost me enough to rethink who I do business with as someone who doesn’t submit claims very often.

I dropped them for insurance 17 years ago and everything else 5+ years ago. Their insurance is great unless there is a medical claim then you have to lawyer up or you’ll only get pennies on the dollar.

I'm an agent in Ohio. We have been getting quite a few people calling us to switch insurance from USAA lately. Reasons have been high rates and or bad CS.

I had been with Liberty Mutual for about 5 years when I had an auto accident that cost them about 5 grand to repair both cars involved. They cancelled my ins. at the next renewal. First time ever having had this happen.

Credit score is 800+, claims for home (1) and auto (2 + 3-4 glass) , but nothing really big, but in the rigged world of insurance, we were too much of a risk. IIRC, we were paying ~$3500/yr for auto, home, PUP.

Luckily, I found State Farm a couple years ago, and working with a local agent, they have been great. No claims, but all other aspects have been a VG experience.

I have wondered if part of the reason USAA is spining off services (such as investing) is they realized the organization had overgrown and drifted from what it should be. I have nothing to base this on, but with all these bad experiences one can hope they have identified the issue and are trying to clean it up.

I had auto insurance with them years ago, had difficulty on a claim. I moved to Wawanesa and have not looked back.
