BC guy here, potentially thinkin about makin the move to the Yukon.

Had a couple questions, from what I understand very lttle Goat population all LEH, Mule Deer and Elk are LEH. Blacktailed Deer, Bison, Moose, Caribou and Dall Sheep are all GOS?

Was also wondering how I attain guiding certification? I have my BC guiding license, though im not sure if it is transferrable to the Yukon, could not get an answer from the Yukon government about that or how to attain Yukons guiding certification.

Much work for millwrights/welders up that way?

we can talk here.

goat is not only on PHA (draw) but there are only few places mostly along NWT mountains (Nahanni). very isolated and far from civilization. and you re right the rest is on draw and after 14 years of applying still not but only 3 tags a year.

we are hunting moose where goats are present in our fly out but very challenging to reach ...

all deer including blacktails are on draw (PHA) only, elk the same. none after 14 years of applying on draw,.

bison, moose, sheep (dall and fannin), black and grizzly bears, caribous are mostly over the counter but for some areas moose and caribou can be get on PHA (draw) as well if closer to whitehorse.

we have the right of one grizzly every three year. and 2 black bears a year.

now for guiding i do not know the requirement for guiding in BC but here you will work for an outfitter that will apply for you as an assistant-guide or guide permit to operate for them. at the end of the season and for each hunt you will have to submit an hunting report that the outfitter will compile and provide to Yukon env.

some will require a current wilderness certificate first aid and also mountaineering experiences and some just the regular st john/red cross first aid first level, some will look first for wranglers then you will become assistant-guide then guide ... you will have to find your way on guiding and deciding who worth your sweat ...

so it will depend if an outfitter needs/wants you. recently most are avoiding to hire/use local guides.

i must add do not forget the one year probation before being a resident for hunting. you will be considered non resident for a year (12 months)
